Back by popular demand, Mudfest returns to WWT Llanelli
Stomp, splash and squelch this February half-term
Families in south Wales can go mad for mud at WWT Llanelli this February half term (14–22 February 2026), as Mudfest returns by popular demand.
Mudfest is the perfect chance for children to grab their wellies, get stuck in with sensory experiences and embrace the outdoors. For one week only, Mudfest invites families to dive into the muddy magic of WWT’s superpowered wetlands and discover just how marvellous mud can be – with a host of hands-on and joyfully messy activities including:
Cook up a muddy masterpiece in our mud kitchen (just don’t taste it!).
Tackle our muddy obstacle course – climb, crawl and creep your way through the fun.
Grab a brush and create a gloriously messy work of art.
Shape and sculpt clay into faces, animals, and more.
Create your own wetland bird from clay and natural materials.
Build a mud nest fit for a wetland bird – safe, sturdy and super squelchy.
Examine the fascinating beaks of wetland birds up close.
Splash through puddles of every size (because clean clothes are overrated!).
Mix up a seed bomb with natural ingredients to take home and plant.
Discover the tiny creatures that thrive beneath the surface of our wetlands.
Take aim in our mudslinging contest – scoop, sling and score!
Feel the mud between your toes in our barefoot squelch area.
“Mudfest is all about embracing the mess – it’s such a fun way for families to roll up their sleeves and really connect with nature and our wetlands.” Said Jessica Thompson, spokesperson at WWT Llanelli.
“And mud isn’t just messy – it’s magical. A single cubic metre of estuary mud holds the same calorific content as sixteen 58g chocolate bars! So mud really matters.
Mudfest is all about getting stuck in and hands on, it’s a brilliant way for families to experience just how incredible our wetlands really are.”
Other family-friendly activities at WWT Llanelli this February half term include pond dipping, minibeast hunting and other nature-inspired adventures.
All Mudfest 2026 activities are included with WWT Llanelli entry tickets or are free for WWT members.
Mudfest runs from 14–22 February 2026 during February half term.
