Margaret Jones’s legendary edition of Y Mabinogi was published in 1984 and has influenced two to three generations of children growing up in Wales and around the world. Her iconic map of Y Mabinogi hangs in homes across the country, and has defined our vision of Branwen and Blodeuwedd, while her books have portrayed mythological heroes, Arthur, Glyndwr, Madoc, Dafydd ap Gwilym, Twm Sion Cati and Dewi Sant. We see our mythology and folk tales through Margaret’s eyes.
Join Margaret’s son Mark Jones and book illustrators Peter Stevenson and Valériane Leblond, to hear about her home life, her work in an international context, and an appraisal of children’s books today. The event will also celebrate the launch of Margaret Jones and the Art of Visual Storytelling, the new book of illustrations compiled by Peter and published by H’MM Foundation; and some of the 200 illustrations recently donated to the Library will be on display, including the original pencil drawing of the Mabinogi map which shows the extraordinary detail of her working methods.
