Over the weekend the Leader of Caerphilly Council, Cllr. Philippa Marsden, announced that we would explore options to celebrate our Olympians Lauren Williams and Lauren Price. We are keen to create a lasting legacy so we are in the process of creating a Team Caerphilly Sports Wall of Fame in the Centre for Sporting Excellence.
Over the weekend, the Leader of Caerphilly Council Cllr. Philippa Marsden, announced our intentions to celebrate our Olympians Lauren Williams and Lauren Price. We are keen to create a lasting legacy of these achievements, so we will be inviting our Olympians to unveil our Team Caerphilly Sports Wall of Fame at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach.
Additionally, to mark the event residents will see lamp post artwork which will feature their images in each of their home towns. Also, we will be lighting up key buildings across the county borough on the day of the unveiling.
Residents will also have the opportunity to visit the Centre for Sporting Excellence to sign a book of commemoration which will be gifted to the athletes in the coming weeks. This date will be released shortly.
The Leader is also exploring options to recognise all of our Olympians achievements on a countywide basis as part of a largescale celebration, and is working up proposals to be presented at the next full council, as this is a full council decision.
Centre for Sporting Excellence
CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence is a facility that provides a full size 3G rugby and football pitch. Laid to international standard, each with a 500 seat stand. This is supported by ancillary rooms and appropriate parking for events and training.
