For me, photography is a way to capture my life in pictures. I use photography to capture what I see on the mountains and in the hills whilst out hiking or mountain biking. For years it was no more than a way for me to catalogue my life in pictures but this changed into a passion to create the perfect image.
Less than two years ago, I was given my first DSLR camera for my birthday. This soon led to me realising that I knew very little about photography, other than having my own style and composition. It certainly made it clear that I had very little knowledge of how a camera works and how to use one to its full potential. It was at this point that photography turned from something I played with now and again to a full time passion.
I created my own website in November last year, along with a Facebook page, mainly to share my images and my love for the outdoors. It soon became apparent that people were willing to purchase my pictures and so I decided to produce a more professional website, so I could sell my images but also create a blog page and show off my growing portfolio of work.
Recently I have tried other genres of photography, and I am always learning new techniques and styles. I have started taking on commissions for websites and other projects, which have been great fun, and also have some interesting projects lined up for the future.
If I was to be honest, landscape photography is my passion, mainly because it sits so perfectly with my love for Wales and its great outdoors. There is nothing more amazing than taking in the views on a remote hilltop or in a hidden valley, knowing that you are the only person at that particular time witnessing what’s in front of you. When you’re hunting for that special composition or perfect light, it is easy to forget why you are out in these beautiful places. I soon found I was starting to put my walking boots on to go out and take pictures rather than go walking to enjoy the silence and beauty Wales has to offer. I have since put my priorities in order but of course always make sure I have my camera in my bag.
