Women’s CO2 Renu Half Zip Fleece from Craghoppers

filler

Craghoppers have a special place in my heart and there are quite a few reasons for that. Firstly their range of clothing is stylish, practical and does the job you need it to do, keeping you warm, dry, comfortable and looking great too! I also love their company ethos, their use of recycled materials, how the company forges ahead with different technologies and importantly that their range is guaranteed for life. Not sure how you can possibly better that!

So I was delighted to try out the Women’s Renu half zip fleece and intrigued that this garment contains CO2. This is a Bio3 carbon smart polyester that captures carbon emissions before they are omitted into the atmosphere and transforms them into yarns, wow, that is so clever and really blows my mind. Then Craghoppers blend the yarns with the recycled polyester to create new fabrics. The Renu is an advanced insulating layer that offers outstanding warmth due to its superior insulating properties. It also feels really soft and cuddly to wear so it is hard to believe that this snuggly fleece is partly made from recycling plastic bottles into polyester, reducing carbon emissions and landfill waste, that’s beyond smart!

To realise that this lovely half-zip top allows you to enjoy an uncompromising performance that doesn’t raise your carbon footprint, is quite remarkable. Knowing that this relaxed insulating microfleece top is made from smart polyester fibres recovered from spent carbon using award-winning CO2 technology blended with recycled polyester, still amazes me, so it is no wonder Craghoppers are one of my favourite companies. Along with the half zip collar there are elasticated colour bound hems, cuffs and collar, plus colour on each side seam which makes it so stylish. There are also two zipped front security pockets which are important to me, especially when I am dog-walking on the beach, as I’d hate to lose my car keys!

I am sure this will prove to be a popular fleece, whether you are dog-walking like me, off on an activity holiday, out to lunch with the girls or just relaxing at home wrapping Christmas presents.

If you have time, please do visit the Craghoppers website as they have so many products in their range, for men and women that will make super Christmas gifts. Plus if you’re not completely happy with your purchase, you can return unwanted items within 30 days. So that really does give you confidence to do some Christmas shopping at Craghoppers.

Craghoppers are a leading global adventure travel brand. They are a company I have been such a huge fan of as I love their company ethos, which in a nutshell is sustainability, but actually so much more as their latest growth chapter in their longstanding sustainable story with the CO2Renu joining the range as an innovative way of recycling waste CO2 into a product. As a for instance this CO2Renu Fleece is Part Made with Carbon Emissions. The science behind making a CO2Renu fleece is quite complex, but I can explain it to you in just three simple steps:

  1. CO2 waste is captured from manufacturing factories such as steel mills.
  2. The captured CO2 is then fermented (in a process much like making beer) into liquid ethanol.
  3. The liquid ethanol is then polymerised into fibres, which becomes some of the polyester fibres that will be a part of your new CO2Renu fleece.

Craghoppers begins a world first for the outdoor industry as CO2Renu has been created in collaboration with industry experts, LanzaTech and is helping reduce the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process.

CO2Renu reshapes carbon waste by using CO2 emissions as the starting point to create some of Craghoppers recycled polyester blends. The 4-piece collection features a full and half zip fleece for men and women in a variety of colourways including blue navy, black pepper, red and ecru.

The women’s style comes in a relaxed fit with a dropped shoulder and for men, a more active cut is present. A timeless design with colour pops to brighten the garment inside and out, each come with a helpful CO2Renu explanation label on the outer giving a smart finish whilst helping to inform the customer.

Craghoppers is keen to ensure that sustainability is a key focus in every step of the manufacturing process. With that in mind, the CO2Renu Jacket and Half Zip were designed and developed in 3D design programme, CLO.  Craghoppers’ Product Team chose to use CLO because it reduces the need for prototypes, therefore reducing waste.

“We are really excited to be working in collaboration with Industry experts to incorporate innovative fabrics on our sustainable sourcing journey.” Katie Cotterill, Senior Buyer Manager on Craghoppers’ Product Team says. “As a technical outdoor brand, polyester is one of our most commonly used fibres. To be able to incorporate LanzaTech’s groundbreaking technology into our fabrics mean that we are able to take the first step on our journey to using next generation recycled fibres that don’t rely on recycled bottles.”

CO2RENU uses 100% recycled fabric which includes (up to) 30% of fibres made from recycled carbon emissions as an alternative to recycled plastic bottles.

CO2RENU technology has been created in collaboration with industry experts, LanzaTech. The process reshapes carbon waste by using carbon emissions as the starting point to create some of Craghoppers recycled polyester blends. CO2RENU technology is an innovative way of recycling carbon emissions from industry that would otherwise be emitted as CO2, whilst helping reduce the carbon footprint of the fabric.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

In simple terms CO2RENU is a 3-part process:

  1. Intercepting carbon emissions
  2. Fermenting carbon into liquid ethanol
  3. Polymerizing it into fabric
