The Torch Theatre

The Torch Theatre engages, inspires, entertains and challenges its audiences with a vibrant programme of work which celebrates the essential power of live performance to promote social and personal change. This is something that the Torch has fulfilled since 1977 when it first opened its doors.

Through its education work, community engagement and volunteer programme, the Torch actively promotes arts and culture across Pembrokeshire, West Wales and beyond.

As Pembrokeshire’s only professional theatre and one of only three building-based producing theatres in Wales, the Torch Theatre soon established itself as an unqualified success, recognised both locally and nationally with its production arm offering a range of classic and new dramas all year round, as well as the always-popular Christmas pantomime, attracting performers of the highest calibre. For almost 50 years, the Torch company has staged 150 productions, including shows that have toured internationally and performed at the Edinburgh Festival to award-winning acclaim.

One of these productions is Grav – a remarkable one-man show exploring the life and times of one of Wales’ most loved sons, Ray Gravell. Grav has been seen by 1000’s of audience members across Wales, England and Scotland, and has also toured to Washington and New York.

The Torch Theatre has its own choir – Torch Voices; the Joanna Field Gallery where local invited artists exhibit their work, as well as Café Torch with a terrific menu. It’s Youth Theatre, Summer Schools for both adults and young people are very popular and over the summer months, Sunset Cinema tours to venues across the county showcasing popular films on the big screen.

Coffi Cymraeg – a monthly Welsh language get together is proving popular where people come and practice their Welsh in a relaxed environment. The Torch Theatre also houses My Moves, a weekly, hour long workshop of fun dance-based activities designed specifically for adults with learning disabilities in association with a disability movement group with Pembrokeshire People First. The Welsh National Opera’s Cradle Choir meets at the Torch and Movies and Memories (dementia friendly film screenings for those with dementia and their carers).

The Torch Theatre recently worked in collaboration with Theatr Clwyd on a world premier production called Kill Thy Neighbour.
