Welsh Country loves to celebrate businesses within Wales that provide products and services that are the best that can be.
Laura Tenison, founder and owner of Wonderful Escapes at Wern y Cwm Farm told us…
STOP PRESS: We are the Best Self Catering in the whole country!
“Yippee we only WON!!!
“Yup, we just won Best Self Catering in the whole of Wales. Gulp! That’s such an honour. Thank you Visit Wales for noticing what makes Wonderful Escapes very, very special.
“We have a gorgeous trophy to prove it (solid engraved Welsh slate and surprisingly tasteful). Eerm, well, we did have a gorgeous trophy presented to us at the lavish do last night but now I look around my hotel room in Llandudno (feeling like it’s the morning after a good night), I can’t see it. Oh dear.
“Not only did we win, but we celebrated, and at Wonderful we work very hard, but we play hard too. We have an amazing team who all deserve this win. So I’d better drag myself out of bed and go hunt the trophy…“
X Laura
UPDATE: Award found safe and sound!
What fantastic sentiment from Laura on winning The National Tourism Award for the Best Self Catering. But Wonderful Escapes is so much more than just a self – catering cottage.

Whether you are a visitor to Wales or a local enjoying a social drink and possibly something to eat is always welcome.
In Pembrokeshire one such watering hole is The Angel in Narberth. Having established itself as a gourmet pub that is worth travelling for.
Back in November last year The Angel Narberth hosted a Big Breakfast for Prostate Cancer. This was a huge success and earlier this year Prostrate Cancer was given a cheque for over £500.00 from this single event.

The hospitality sector also offers drinks as well as food and Wales has the very best of drinks producers.
We start with Monty’s Brewery based up in Montgomery built its reputation on gluten free beers and have built on and continued the reputation of quality beers. The brilliance continues to be recognised as Russ from Monty’s tells Welsh Country…
“Super excited to announce our Red IPA won Gold at the European Beer Challenge 2025. Beers from all over Europe enter and the competition is judged by leading beer buyers. Our Red IPA won in the session IPA category. This medal is a seal of approval on our quality.
“So, really proud for Kate pictured here with Russ as it was her recipe.”

We stay with the “Red Theme” but move breweries to that of Bluestone Brewing Company in Pembrokeshire. No not an award, although deserved of one but a relaunch.
Relaunch Red of Heaven with new label design and now in a can.
Our latest “new” beer, a fresh, improved version of our old classic.
Red of heaven is a 4.2% well-balanced Welsh Red Ale. It features a combination of rich malty flavours with a touch of caramelised grain on top, with added character from Amarillo and Citra hops. It is now available in the new format of a 440ml can and we’ve given the label a little Welsh boost too!
Bluestone Brewing Company also say:
We are an Assured Independent British craft brewer registered with SIBA. The ethos behind the business has always been about creating great beer, responsibly and with as little impact on the planet as possible.

Following the idea of limiting the impact products have on the planet we stay partly in Pembrokeshire but with a business distilling in Ceredigion.
Dà Mhìle distils a variety of spirits and in the past created the first true Welsh Whisky where all of the ingredients where from Wales and even the Welsh Barley was malted in Wales. This using of sustainable and local ingredients continues but this time with their Seaweed Gin. Seaweed Gin was one of Dà Mhìle’s early spirits. Now though they have teamed up with Car Y Mor who profess to be the first regenerative seaweed and shellfish farm and supply Dà Mhìle with their sugar kelp seaweed grown just of the Pembrokeshire Coast.

We finish on a really good news story. The big news comes from artisan producer of jams, chutneys, preserves and sauces Little Grandma’s Kitchen.
So often seen around the food festival circuit but now are the exclusive supplier for five of their products to The Big Pit. The Big Pit which is the National Coal Museum located by the world heritage site of Blaenavon is a really popular industrial heritage museum and the most wonderful show case for products from Little Grandma’s Kitchen with their bespoke Big Pit labels.
But this accolade for Little Grandma’s Kitchen is not the end as they, under their own label, are being stocked by Leekes the premium retailer of home furnishings and home improvement products with six stores across south Wales including at Crosshands and south west England

We hope that this helps showcase a few of the wonderful services, hospitality and products from Welsh businesses, it would be wonderful if you supported them when you have the opportunity.
