Photography, to me, is a way of defining and capturing life’s important events. To create images that have the ability to transport you to a time and place in your life that holds great meaning, is both a challenge and a pleasure. I started out with photography in my early teens and went on to study it at college along with graphic design. I would spend days locked away practising the dark art of black & white printing. A career in design developed and slowly, photography played a smaller and smaller part in my life until I developed a passion for the environment and fell in love with travel. I would spend most of my spare time walking, cycling and kayaking, wondering the hills and exploring the coast. These journeys became more and more challenging and I found my interest in photography re-fired. I now had a means to capture and record those special moments and places I found myself in. I love wilderness and expeditions. These trips give you the time and space to submerge yourself in your surroundings. Life becomes very simple. I hope that is reflected in my photography. There is something very meditative about observing a scene, spending time to compose and capture its characteristics. I now work as a photographer & designer in west Wales, where I have lived now for nearly 25 years. I still enjoy the challenge of capturing someone’s life event as if it were my own and I have been privileged to have photographed a wide array of subjects from maternity shoots to sporting events, portraits to humpback whales. Whatever the journey, be it a two month kayaking expedition up the west coast of Scotland or months spent kayaking the west Coast of Greenland, I am always drawn back to Wales. It’s a special place and where my heart lies.
