Monty’s Brewery Celebrates 10th Anniversary

It was January 29th 2009 when Pam Honeyman brewed her first beer, it was Monty’s “Sunshine”.  Today Monty’s Brewery Celebrates 10th Anniversary and it is still the breweries biggest selling beer.

Everyone here at Monty’s Brewery wants to thank all our customers for supporting us over the last 10 years, for telling their friends, bringing their friends, enjoying our beer. Thank you to both the Sportsman’s customers and more recently the Visitor Centre customers at The Cottage, Montgomery where we get visitors from all over the world.

In the early days Monty’s was brewing about 2100 pints a week, now it is around 22,000 with orders regularly going abroad for export.

Monty’s Brewery first award was won after just the 3rd brew – it was the “Darlington CAMRA Spring Thing beer festival” and everyone at the brewery thought it was an April fool’s joke when they called and told us. Since then we have had many many awards, we were featured in Ben McFarlands Book, 500 of the World’s Finest Beers. Pete Brown mentioned us in his Top 50 beers in Britain, also The Sportsman was in his book as one of the best 300 pubs in Britain. Nigel Barden when he was on Simon Mayo’s Radio 2 show featured Monty’s Beers twice with his food pairings on Foodie Thursday. Anita Rani filmed Countryfile at the brewery. We have raised a total of over £3000 for SSAFA every summer selling Monty’s “Desert Rats”. Best Offa raises money for the upkeep of the Offa’s Dyke Path and Top Chef Andrew Birch has used our beer on The Great British Menu. We have pulled a few pints in the Houses of Parliament. The brewery had “Old Jailhouse “nominated a Finalist of Champion Beer of Britain, “Hilltop” was nominated Finalist Champion Bottled Beer of Britain by CAMRA. We can’t forget what CAMRA have done not just locally but nationally to help promote the comeback of real ale and get cask beer back in vogue. Finally, in 2017 we were nominated one of the top three Great Taste Food Producers in Wales, and in 2018 Finalist top three Food Producer for the Made in Wales Awards.

To celebrate the Tenth anniversary Monty’s Brewery has brewed a very limited edition version of the highly successful Multi Award winning beer “Dark Secret”, which has been aged for 6 months in a Welsh Whiskey & Maderia cask. The flavours are fantastic with the rich smooth chocolate and coffee of the Dark Secret, topped with a kick of whiskey. The bottles called simply “TEN” are only available at The Visitor Centre in Montgomery, and The Sportsman, Newtown.

At Monty’s we have always been proud of our philosophy – To beer beers you want another pint of by simply brewing beers to perfection.

So once again thank you to everyone who has supported us, bring on the next 10 years !
