Llandovery College Celebrates Exceptional Exam Results

Llandovery College students are celebrating an outstanding year of A Level and BTEC results, with significant improvements across all headline measures and excellent outcomes achieved across both academic and vocational pathways.

2026 Results

  • A*-A: 32.8% (up from 20% last year)
  • A*-C: 72.3% (up from 59% last year)
  • A*-E: 97.8% (up from 97% last year)

These results represent substantial year-on-year improvements and reflect the strong academic progress being made by pupils at Llandovery College. As a proudly non-selective school, the College continues to demonstrate the value it adds through high-quality teaching, individual support and a culture of ambition and achievement.

The College also celebrated exceptional success in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), with 70% of students achieving an A grade and 100% achieving grades A-C. These results reflect pupils’ growing confidence in independent learning, research and critical thinking skills.

Several subjects recorded particularly strong performances. Mathematics, English and Physics each achieved over 80% A*-C grades, with Mathematics standing out as a particular strength, where 40% of students achieved an A* or A grade. In addition, students studying BTEC Sport achieved excellent results, with 55% gaining the highest Distinction and Distinction* grades and a 100% pass rate, highlighting the strength of vocational learning opportunities available at the College.

Among the highest-achieving students, one pupil secured an outstanding three A* grades, while a number of others achieved combinations of A and A* grades, securing places on competitive university courses and other exciting pathways beyond school.

Acting Warden, Dr Georgie Bevan, said:

“We are immensely proud of our students. These outcomes are the result of years of dedication, perseverance and hard work, and we are delighted to see our pupils rewarded for their efforts.”

“Whether they are progressing to university, apprenticeships, employment or other exciting opportunities, they should be extremely proud of what they have accomplished.”

“I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our dedicated staff, who have worked tirelessly to support our students throughout the year. Their commitment, expertise and care have made a significant contribution to these excellent results, and we are incredibly grateful for all they have done.”

Deputy Warden (Academic), Miss Cressy Passmore, added:

“We are delighted with this year’s results and particularly pleased with the significant improvements seen across all key performance measures. To increase our A*-A outcomes from 20% to 32.8% and our A*-C results from 59% to 72.3% represents exceptional progress and demonstrates that Llandovery College is continuing to go from strength to strength academically.

These outcomes reflect not only the hard work of our students, but also the personalised support that is available throughout their educational journey. In particular, our Academic Action Plans have provided targeted and supportive interventions for pupils who required additional guidance. We are especially pleased that students supported through this programme improved, on average, by two grades, demonstrating the positive impact that timely intervention, encouragement and expert teaching can have on pupil achievement.

As a non-selective school, we are incredibly proud of the progress that our students make. Today’s results are a testament to the ambition of our pupils, the dedication of our staff and the strength of a school community that is committed to helping every young person achieve their potential.”

The College’s Year 12 students also performed strongly in their AS Level examinations, producing results that mirror the success seen at A Level. The highest proportion of top grades was achieved in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, providing an encouraging indication of continued academic success as these students progress into their final year of Sixth Form studies.

As students celebrate their achievements and prepare for the next stage of their educational and professional journeys, the entire Llandovery College community congratulates them on their success and wishes them every happiness and success for the future.
