I’m Kathleen Dawson, a photographer based in Gwynedd North Wales. There is no shortage of mountains and Quarries in Gwynedd. One of my favourite places is the Old Slate Quarry and mountains in Dinorwic area. This selection of images will take you on a journey from Marchlyn Mawr Reservoir to Dinorwic quarry. I have done this walk many times. Some of the images have been taken with a drone. With the use of a drone you can see the landscape form a different perspective.
Dinorwic Quarry was a slate quarry. There are lots of old buildings on different quarry levels. Dinorwic Quarry was the second largest slate quarry in Wales. The slate quarry opened in 1787 and closed in 1969. The Quarry has great view across to Llanberis and the mountain beyond.
Marchlyn Mawr reservoir and Marchlyn Bach reservoir lie between Carnedd y Fillast and Elidir Fawr mountains. Marchlyn Mawr reservoir took 4 years to build. Elidir Fawr the northmost peak in the Glyderau range .With views across to Anglesley.
The texture of this landscape change through the seasons.
The Marchlyn area is inviting to the walker and cyclist and the quarry is a climbers paradise.
When going out to take photographs. I will plan what I want to photograph and what route would be best. I enjoy getting out into different landscapes and exploring new areas.
