In and Through Barry

What does one make of Barry?
A town wherein to tarry?
The island walk’s quite pleasant,
points out to sea as crescent
of houses, beach and fairground,
two spits of trees and bare ground,
An island reached by causeway
with harbour, road and railway….

What does one make of Barry?
A town wherein to tarry?

An empty dock and rusted tracks
with history upon their backs,
lie shops and houses up the hill
from shopping centre lacking thrill –
but walking on beyond the streets,
upon the cliff the walker meets
a spread of grass and sea-bright view
which draw the feet and township through

What does one make of Barry?
A town wherein to tarry?
