Food Centre training with Dunbia demonstrates the food and drink excellence that is around Mid Wales

Dunbia is one of Europe’s leading food companies specialising in the production of quality beef, lamb, further processed and slow cooked meat products. The BRC Accredited Company is a leading supplier to a range of national and international supermarkets, food service and restaurant businesses. Dunbia works with over 40,000 farmers across the UK and Ireland to ensure the quality of its produce. Operating from 13 UK sites, including two in Wales located in Cross Hands and Llanybydder, they serve diverse markets exporting to over 50 countries worldwide. In 2022, Dunbia was the first firm to export a consignment of British lamb to the US for more than two decades.  With a turnover of £1billion Dunbia is one of Wales’ leading food manufacturers.

Dunbia’s success has largely been attributed to their values in fulfilling their mission for continuous process innovation and investment to deliver safe and consistent quality products to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Support provided by the Food Centre Training from their base at Food Centre Wales

It comes as no surprise that one of Dunbia’s key missions is to challenge and support their people to realise their full potential as part of a high-performance team in a food safe environment.  We were delighted when they approached Food Centre Wales to assist them with their staff training to help maintain and improve their standards within their team.

The Dunbia Llanybydder site needed to upskill new members of their team with more advanced HACCP knowledge. They were keen to invest in Level 3 HACCP training for their team as they are dedicated to excellence and continuous improvement. Food Centre Wales offers accredited HACCP training up to and including level 4, which is accredited through Highfield and can be delivered on site, in our dedicated training suite, online or hybrid to suit each client’s specific requirements.

Benefits of the support provided by FCW

As a company that employs almost 5,000 people throughout the UK, Dunbia prides itself in investing in their workforce. Our training officer discussed their requirements and used relevant examples throughout the training to apply their learning to their specific process. After discussing the options available of Food Centre training, an online modular training format delivered over 5 separate days, was the preferred option to conclude with an invigilated online exam.

Commenting on the training Stuart McLoughlin, Technical Manager at Dunbia Llanybydder, said:

“Food Safety and Quality is at the forefront of our production, enabling us to confidently provide consistent quality products to our customers across the globe. The training delivered by Food Centre Wales has enabled us to upskill our team with Level 3 HACCP qualifications to ensure we have in-house expertise to maintain our high food safety standards.

“The team really enjoyed the accredited training.  It was very thorough, and the Food Centre Wales Training Officer made it really interesting with an interactive approach.  It was definitely not just a tick box exercise! Thank you very much to FCW, it makes the job easier having such well-trained members on the HACCP team and we will no doubt be in contact again soon. I’ll certainly be passing on my recommendation to colleagues at our sister sites.”

Feedback from Food Centre Wales

Individuals who have completed HACCP training with the Food Centre training will have the confidence and expertise to produce safe, quality food for their customers.

“Dunbia places food safety and quality at the heart of their values, which is largely why they actively invest in Accredited training for their team. They were all very enthusiastic and keen to learn more which made them a delight to teach and I’m happy to report they all passed with flying colours. This was the start of what I hope will be a great partnership for us in delivering training to Dunbia.”

Catherine Cooper, Training Officer, Food Centre Wales.
