As ever, White Castle vineyard are thrilled with its recent successes in this years WineGB Awards 2022.
The awards ceremony and lunch was held in the fabulous Drapers Hall in the heart of the city of London, a truly majestic setting steeped in history.
The awards are important and valuable for our industry. The wines that scored well are presented by WineGB at a range of tastings and showcases, providing great exposure for producers and highlighting the high quality wines made in Wales and England.
Robb and I were delighted to receive the Welsh regional winners award for White Castle Vineyard for the second year running at the WineGB awards ceremony a great day, sharing success is always a pleasure with wine experts Oz Clarke OBE and Susie Barrie MW.
From Grape to Glass
Robb and I have tasted the fruits of our labour from harvest 2021, and have we a fine array of Welsh red wines coming your way, decision making, living the dream and loving our job that’s it in a nutshell.
Our 2021 still white wines Siegerrebe and Gwin gwyn have certainly lived up to expectation and have been awarded in recognition.
The month of June not only uncorked the release of Phoebe Cuvée vintage 2020 during Welsh Wine Week, but again our Pinot Noir Précoce reserve vintage 2019 gained 90 points and was awarded Silver at Decanter World Wine Awards 2022 and let’s not forget a Silver award at this years International Wine Challenge, this is now the most award dressed bottle of wine we have.
However Here in the Vineyard is Where it All Begins
I’m pleased to say we managed to escape avoid the wrath of “Jack Frost“ this year, with a perfect script of weather to date.
A new planting in May of more Pinot Noir Précoce and Phoenix has established itself well, and the rain came just as we prayed “thankfully”.
This year we plan to harvest for the first time our younger vines Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir Précoce these were planted in 2019.
It an exciting time and a first for Cabernet Franc in Wales, all eyes are on us!
We have now doubled in size at White Castle Vineyard with the number of vines in the ground now at 10,000 across 3.25 hectares.
We are pleased to say that we have continued our vineyard tours @ 11.30 & 3pm Friday – Sunday including bank holidays and a warm welcome awaits new and returning visitors to White Castle Vineyard, booking is advised.
With harvest on the distant horizon we generally begin towards the middle of September and continue until the end of October weather permitting. I’m sure we shall meet some of you in person especially if you have an Adopt a vine and wish to take advantage of joining us at harvest.
And on that note it’s time for Robb and I to get back to what we enjoy most, living the dream.
Diolch Robb & Nicola.
