Zoe Bakes based in Brecon is the home of delicious sweet home baked cakes and treats and she started her business almost by accident in 2020 commenting:
“I started during lockdown and I baked to pass some time and I fell in love with it.”
“It was Marc Anthony that said, ‘If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life’.”
This statement is very broad and no job is perfect but many business consultants agree that the more you love your job the harder you work at it and the better the end product. That is certainly true for Zoe’s Bakes with not only her regular bakes but cakes for special occasions.
Zoe remarks:
“Most of my special occasion cakes are ordered through social media, with potential customers sending me photos or themes and colours to work off. I then send the client a quote on the design they want and once confirmed I will book them in.
“People usually order a few weeks in advance but I often take last minute orders and have them out within a day.”
You can argue that not all of Zoe Bakes products are for special occasions but others would differ. The deliciousness of the more mundane of her produce makes eating them a special occasion.
Zoe explained:
“At my markets I sell brownies, blondies and cookies as my main products but I also sell lemon drizzle Welsh cakes and other special cakes. Online I sell anything and everything from cookies to cakes to cheesecakes.
“I would say at the moment my most popular bake is my chocolate chip cookies or the cherry Bakewell blondie but these change so often.
“I regularly attend Hay on Wye weekly market on a Thursday and Brecon Farmers Market on the second Saturday of the month.”
But Zoe Bakes is growing and she loves meeting new and potential customers mentioning:
“I’ve been doing the annual Brecon Show and the nearby Talgarth Festival once a year for the past 2 years, but in 2023 I attended my first Royal Welsh Show as a trader with the most wonderful response.”
These shows which attract a wider audience from across the UK means the demands from many miles away increases.
Zoe points out that she caters for all ensuring that Zoe Bakes scrumptiousness can be enjoyed across the UK.
“Customers from UK mainland can order postal boxes online and have brownies and cookies delivered to their door. More locally for those that cannot get to the markets or shows early I do accept collection orders, I have people come to my house at a certain time or they can collect from my markets.”
