Carmarthenshire based Landsker Business Solutions presented local mental health charity, The DPJ Foundation, with a cheque for £5760. The money was raised as part of Landsker’s 25th Birthday celebrations through a charity auction and raffle at the black tie event which was held at the Wolfscastle Hotel.

Landsker Business Consultant, Wayne Evans, helped secure £40,000 in funding to allow former fashion buyer, Bethan Thomas, to buy her dream business, Susie’s Sheepskin Boots.

Susie’s Sheepskin Boots have been keeping toes toasty in Pembrokeshire for 45 years, having been set up in Narberth by Susie Lincoln in the 1970’s. Bethan has fond memories childhood memories of the boots saying,

“All the cool kids were wearing them and I was so excited when my parents treated me to a pair too. I moved away from Pembrokeshire for work and enjoyed a thriving career as a fashion buyer working with brands such as Kurt Geiger and JD Sports, but once my son was born I knew I wanted to bring him up by the sea. When I realised Susie’s Sheepskin Boots was on the market, all those fond childhood memories came flooding back and with my background in fashion it seemed like a logical fit, but I knew I’d need some help, particularly with funding”.

Bethan heard about Landsker Business Solutions at a drop-in at the Bridge Innovation Centre, where she met Consultant Wayne, and Director David Selwyn. She said,

This year Landsker (Business Solutions) has been trading for 25 years. We think this is no mean achievement as only 33% of SME’s reach their 10^th year trading anniversary. (There are no published statistics indicating how many reach their quarter century!). We are delighted to announce that we will be celebrating this significant milestone throughout the remainder of 2024.

Since 1998 when our founder and MD, Jeremy Bowen Rees, relocated back from London, (to live and work on the right side of the Severn Bridge, due to the arrival of the internet), we have been delivering business support to both pre-start and established SME’s, in all sectors, throughout the length and breadth of Wales.

Over the last 25 years we have worked with around 3,000 businesses, helped raise finance exceeding £150m for clients, assisted approximately 750 companies to start trading and contributed to the creation of over 6,000 jobs in Wales. All this down to the hard work of our 25 staff and associates delivered from our attractive rural offices in Whitland.

Even though current market forces are difficult, we remain optimistic for what the future holds for the majority of SME’s who are the bedrock of the Welsh economy. And, we will continue to help them grow, change and prosper.

Landsker is now accredited on more business support programmes than any other organisation in Wales and, at any one time, we’re working with over 100 businesses in diverse sectors including food and drink, tourism, agriculture, professional services, manufacturing, renewable energy  and so on. Landsker Business Solutions Ltd., a Whitland based business consultancy, is set to continue its ten year long relationship with Menter a Busnes to deliver an element of the Farming Connect, programme, provided by Welsh Government to support Welsh farmers. 

It has been announced that Menter a Busnes will continue to provide support to farmers via Farming Connect Advisory Service with Landsker named as one of the lead consultants initially selected to provide expert business support for farm diversification. This support will be available to Welsh farmers for the next 2 years.

For over 20 years Landsker has supported SMEs in a variety of sectors to develop and expand their businesses but this long-standing relationship with Farming Connect is something that they hold dearly as a rural business themselves.

Landsker Business Solutions Ltd. is helping local people to develop their career prospects and get back into work with its new project, Routes.

Routes is a project developed by Landsker and backed by WCVA via the Active Inclusion Fund which is supported by the European Social Fund through Welsh Government. The Routes project aims to support those aged 25 and over to raise their skills and make steps towards employment. The end goal is to help build a thriving and prosperous economy to improve the lives of people and communities across the nation by tackling poverty and ensuring equal opportunities for all.

The project, which works across Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion, will support people throughout the three counties to access free awareness and fully accredited training courses, career advice and support as well as volunteering opportunities.

Landsker Technical Director Dave Selwyn said:

‘It has been a difficult two years for us all given the impact of Coronavirus but for some this has been heightened due to the struggles of many industries and as a result many job losses. Now is an opportune moment for those in need of work to retrain and develop themselves to re-enter the job market equipped with new skills and that is what we hope to help them achieve through Routes.’

‘Time out of work can impact people in a number of ways and whilst financial support is of great benefit the ultimate goal for people is to get back into work, to provide for themselves and their families and ultimately become financially independent. Through our varied course offerings service users can choose to improve existing skills and qualifications or to completely start from scratch and train in something altogether different. Beyond this our aim is to support people by offering them opportunity to prepare for the job market again with CV support, interview techniques and a friendly face for support and advice.’
