Each year the streets of Builth Wells are lit up with a wonderful display of Christmas lights in readiness for a busy week brought to the town by the Royal Welsh Winter Fair, typically held at the end of November/early December each year. This year the Winter Fair fell into the last week of November where we saw huge crowds gather to attend the agricultural event and help celebrate its 30th year.
As a mark of appreciation the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society is happy to donate £350 towards the cost of maintaining, erecting and purchasing new lights.
Chief Executive of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, Steve Hughson, said:
“The Society is delighted to be able to carry on our support to the Builth Wells town Christmas lights each year. Not only does it bring the town to life during the Christmas period and during the Winter Fair, but it is also another opportunity to for us and the town council to work closely together and to show our support to the people of Builth Wells and the surrounding areas”.
Builth Wells Town Mayor, Gwyn Davies, said it was a “pleasure” to receive the donation for the Christmas lights which will be used towards maintenance and any repair work needed to keep the fantastic display running. He also added how it is “essential” that the town council and the society continue to support each other.
Ongoing a close relationship between the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and Builth Wells Town Council is of high importance to the society; especially at Christmas. Throughout the year the society has contributed to the town in many ways; by working together on the “Green Route” and safety during the society’s main event in July; our chief executive, Steve Hughson, was honoured to represent the society at the Builth Wells Remembrance Parade; and now the donation towards the Christmas lights.
