Cookery Corner at the Lampeter Food Festival takes place on Saturday 29th July, 2023. This particular part of the event will kick off at 10:00 with Michelin star Chef Nathan Davies from SY23, Aberystwyth. Nathan will also be selling and signing copies of his first cookery book ‘ On Fire’.
The Food Festival is running raffle throughout the day and Nathan is donating a copy of his book as a prize.
The second session at 11:00 will showcase two very talented young ladies from Ysgol Bro Pedr. Elen Morgan and Marged Jones will be sharing the stage with Richard Simpson, Head Chef of the Black Lion Royal Hotel in Lampeter. Elen is the winner of the Young Chef Competition run jointly with Tir Glas UWTSD Coleg Ceredigion. Marged came 3rd in the Future Chef Sprinboard competition*. Richard a past student from Pibwr Lwyd Coleg Sir Gar, will be sharing a new dish soon to be added to the Hotel’s menu.
At 12:00 Gareth Johns Slow Food Ambassador for Wales and recently inaugurated as a Disciple of the Escoffier Fellowship, will share some tips on Economy Gastronomy to help make the most of your food budget.
13:00 Huw Morgan and Sam Everton from Coleg Ceredigion will be joined by some of the current students as they showcase several dishes and skills taught at the College.
Well know writer and No Dig Gardener Stephanie Hafferty will host the 14:00 session as she leads you from Plot to Plate and all things great about a No Dig Gardening approach.
At 15:00 Alex Cook will share his thoughts and skills on Heritage Cooking, from Culture to Regeneration. ‘With a passion for Welsh Food, Alex Cook will be cooking up contemporary Welsh dishes that stand the test of time and tyranny. Celebrating our heritage and showcasing the bounty of local, seasonal, and regenerative Welsh produce.
Cookery Corner at the Lampeter Food Festival would not be the same without Lampeter’s local boy Gareth Richards, who owns and runs Cegin Gareth in Lampeter. He will round off the day’s activities in the kitchen at 16:00.

FutureChef Springboard Competition
This is an annual school chef competition that attracting in 2022/3 14,000 student aged 14-16entries from over 400 schools.
Participants are set challenges, learn how to cook under pressure, develop practical and creative skills and build confidence.
This all culminates in a National Final in London every March, attended by well-known chefs, industry professionals, parents and teachers.
