South Caernarfon Creameries has recently kicked off this year’s Christmas festivities by donating the finest products from their flagship ‘Dragon’ brand to the veterans of the Royal Hospital Chelsea at the Annual Ceremony of the Christmas Cheeses.

The event, coordinated by Dairy UK, dates back to 1692 and has become an established part of the festive calendar at the Royal Hospital.

The veterans at the Royal Hospital are known as the Chelsea Pensioners and are retired British Army soldiers who reside at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. They are known for their distinctive scarlet uniforms and their rich history of service to the nation, continuing to be celebrated and honoured for their contributions.

Alan Wyn Jones, Managing Director of SCC said,

“We are honoured to take part in this annual tradition donating to veterans at the Royal Hospital Chelsea every year. The Chelsea Pensioners are a living testament to the service and sacrifice of the British Army veterans.

“This year just over 330 kilograms of British cheese was donated, and we hope they enjoyed our cheese from Wales.”

Dairy UK Chairman Paul Vernon thanked the Royal Hospital for their continued support for the event, and the service of the Pensioners to their country. Mr Vernon added,

“As our trusted friends of many years, we’re grateful to the Royal Hospital for their continued support of the Cheese Ceremony and their unwavering love of British cheese.

“My hope is that the veterans at the Royal Hospital deservedly enjoy these exceptional cheeses this Christmas season, whether melted in a sandwich, stirred into pasta, tucked into a pie, grated on a baked potato, or simply enjoyed in all their natural, unadulterated glory.”

Cutting this year’s 24kg Ceremonial Montgomery Cheddar was Chelsea Pensioner Victor Lucas. Also taking part in the ceremony were Chelsea Pensioners Eddie Russell and Michael Gue (pictured).
