Derwen Farm Shop

Derwen Farm Shop was born in March 2006 after much deliberation. Rachael had long been interested in good food and was a regular visitor to food fayres and markets. There seemed to be an abundance of good quality produce in the area, but with no outlet, so a farm shop seemed like a perfect solution. It has been a massive learning curve, and there has been lots of ups and downs, but the shop has gone from strength to strength and has been received well by both suppliers and buyers in the area.  Caroline Bickford joined the shop soon after it opened, and now runs it from day to day. The main focus is on good quality local produce and interesting food from further afield. You can find freshly baked bread daily, a selection of local cheeses, local free range meats, local ales, fresh fruit and vegetables and much more.  In better times the farm shop welcomes the food producers to come and spend a day at the shop meeting the customers, and giving them a chance to sample their food, which is a great way of keeping everyone in touch. Great smells waft from the kitchen where fresh quiche, pasties and cakes are being produced on site. The farm shop kitchen has been a great asset to the shop, especially with Ruth in there, who is an excellent baker.

The main emphasis is on good quality, fresh and local produce – organic where possible. The friendly and pleasant atmosphere is a welcome change from the supermarket.

During the pandemic the girls have been taking orders over the phone to be boxed up and bought outside for people to collect, which is a great solution for those who are shielding.

March 2021 – The farm shop is currently open from 9am until 5pm Mon-Sat, closed Sunday.
