2024 Was a Landmark Year for the National Garden Scheme

2024 was a landmark year for the National Garden Scheme with the total amount of donations rising to a little over £3.5 million to NGS charities. Thousands of people living with health conditions such as cancer or Parkinson’s, who have poor mental health, or who struggle financially as unpaid carers, have been supported through the funding of the nurses, health professionals and case workers of the major nursing and health beneficiaries of these charities. Our funding has also provided support to those in the Gardens and Health sector along with Community Gardens and gardeners funded through traineeships.

Here in Powys, of the £232,000 awarded nationally to Community Gardens, Apple Blossom Social Enterprise CIC received £2,207, Cultivate (Cwm Harry) Cyfyngedig £4,855, Senni Village Hall £1,132 and The Fathom Trust £2,580.

As we look forward to the launch of the Garden Visitor’s Handbook 2025 and the Powys brochure which will be widely available in February, we can share the news that a total of 75 gardens will be opening here in Powys which includes five group openings (three of which are opening for the first time for the NGS), eight new standalone gardens and 21 that are new to the NGS and part of the group openings. Look out for the gardens which are open for groups by arrangement: many are ideal for garden clubs, WI and other small social gatherings. The NGS website has already been updated for the new season at www.ngs.org.uk
