Local personal injury firm, Mooneerams Solicitors, has named Bronwen’s Wish its Charity of the Year for 2024 after a public vote that attracted five thousand nominations.
Alistair Worth, the managing Director of Mooneerams, said:
“Mooneerams has been passionate about supporting local charities since the firm opened its doors in 2002. However, there are so many great and worthy causes out there, and sadly, we can’t donate to or fundraise for them all.
So last year, we decided that the fairest way to choose our Charity of the Year was by asking members of the public to nominate a charity of their choice. It worked well in 2023 when 2wish topped the voting and became our 2023 Charity of the Year. As a result, we adopted the same approach this year.
We were stunned by the number of people who took the time to vote this year. Also, one hundred and eighty charities received a nomination, with Bronwen’s Wish taking the most votes this time.”
Bronwen’s Wish, a registered charity, was established by the family and close friends of Bronwen Morgan, a 26-year-old second-year student at Cardiff University who sadly took her own life in 2020. Bronwen had bravely battled mental health issues for several years.
‘Bronwen’s Wish’ advocates for changes within the mental health system and actively raises funds to support young individuals facing mental health challenges. One of their initiatives involves funding the provision of Welfare Pods, also known as Dens, in schools that identify a need for them.
These Pods serve as a peaceful and secure haven for children dealing with mental health challenges. It offers them a space to unwind and escape from the hubbub of daily life for a brief period. Additionally, the Pods provide a safe environment where children may be more inclined to open up and share their feelings with a trusted individual.
Alistair Worth said :
“We are grateful for the chance to work with everyone at Bronwen’s Wish. We will do our best to raise as much money as possible to help the charity reach its goals, and we also aim to promote the charity’s aims and its fundraising events through articles, blogs, and social media posts.”
Hayne Morgan, Bronwen’s father and one of the founders of Bronwen’s Wish, said:
“Everyone associated with the charity was over the moon to hear the announcement that Bronwen’s Wish had been named Mooneerams Charity of the Year 2024. We look forward to building a fruitful relationship with Alistair and his team over the next twelve months.”
