The 2025–26 Premier League season has produced one of the most compelling title races in years, with Arsenal and Manchester City locked in a battle that looks set to go down to the wire in May. Away from the top of the table, though, there’s another story quietly unfolding, with a group of emerging players making a real impact and announcing themselves to the division in a way that’s been impossible to ignore, with their performances attracting plenty of attention from those betting on sports online just as much as the title race itself.
Igor Thiago: the bricklayer turned Premier League star
Few stories in football this season match Igor Thiago’s. The Brentford striker grew up in Brasilia, lost his father at 13, and spent his teenage years working in construction and handing out flyers to help support his family. Football wasn’t even on the cards. He only started playing seriously at 16, joining a small club in Parana before eventually finding his way to Cruzeiro’s academy in 2019.
Fast forward to 2025-26, and he’s the Premier League’s second-highest scorer behind only Erling Haaland. He’s notched 19 goals in 31 appearances for Brentford this season, becoming the fastest player in the club’s history to reach double figures in the top flight, breaking Ivan Toney’s record in the process.
In November, he won Premier League Player of the Month after scoring five goals in four matches. A brace against Sunderland in late March took his tally to 16 for the season at that point, making him the highest-scoring Brazilian in a single Premier League campaign and a regular feature in sports tips columns across the country.
That sort of form earned him his first Brazil national team call-up on 16 March 2026. For a player who spent much of the previous season on the treatment table after a meniscus injury on his very first appearance for the club, it’s a remarkable turnaround.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin: a second life at Leeds
Not every breakthrough is about age. 28-year-old Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s revival at Leeds United has been one of the stories of the season, with a player who spent much of his final years at Everton either injured or out of form rediscovering what made him one of the most feared strikers in the league.
He scored seven goals in six consecutive Premier League matches between November and December 2025, with strikes against Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea along the way, and was named Premier League Player of the Month for December.
By February 2026, he had reached 10 league goals for the season, the first Englishman to hit double figures in their debut campaign at Leeds since Matt Smith in the Championship back in 2013-14. With a World Cup on the horizon, his timing couldn’t be better.
Chris Rigg: Sunderland’s midfield engine
Chris Rigg arrived in the Premier League this season as one of the most talked-about teenagers in English football, and he has done nothing to dampen that reputation. The 18-year-old midfielder, who was named EFL Championship Apprentice of the Season in April 2025, has slotted into Sunderland’s first team with the kind of composure you don’t usually associate with someone still in the early stages of their career.
He’s contributed three assists in the league this season, with his ability to read the game and press with intelligence standing out in a Sunderland side that has consistently punched above their weight since promotion.
