CCBC are pleased to announce that a new floral mural in Ystrad Mynach Town Centre has now been completed, creating a splash of colour in the centre of town and enhancing the appearance of the local area.
The side of the Beech Tree Hotel in the centre of town was identified as a suitable location for painting, and CCBC’s Town Centre Team engaged with the owner of the building and commissioned Andy O’Rourke of Malarky Arts to create the mural.
The floral theme of the mural brightens up the surrounding area and is intended to complement and reflect the town’s participation in the annual Wales In Bloom competition and recognise the efforts of the volunteers who work so hard to prepare the town ahead of the judges’ visit.
This project was funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Levelling Up (2022/25) Programme, with a focus on strengthening social fabric, fostering a sense of local pride and belonging, and investing in activities that enhance physical, cultural and social ties.
Jo Hillier-Raikes, Principal Officer for Town Centres and Business Support, commented,
“Yet again, we are over the moon with the results delivered by Andy and the positive response from the public that will complement Ystrad Mynach’s entry for Wales in Bloom. Andy worked exceptionally hard during the recent heatwave to create a pleasing piece of artwork which brings added vibrancy to the town centre. The mural is intended to encourage civic pride amongst local residents, and we would encourage visitors to view the artwork for themselves when in town.”
The owner of the Beech Tree Hotel, Sue Andrews, also said:
“I am absolutely thrilled with the quality of the work and finished result and would like to thank CCBC’s Town Centre Team for approaching me for permission to use the building. I have since arranged with Andy for the mural to be extended around the front of the building as it fully deserves to be appreciated and recognised from all sides of the High Street, and this work is now underway”.
