If you are not aware of the Tilley brand of hats then I must tell you, you are seriously missing out so I’m hoping to help play catch-up.
As a dog-walker I really do need a hat to protect my head and my coloured hair from the sun and also from the wind and the rain whilst I’m dutifully walking my dog along our Welsh beaches and sand hills. Well in this medium brimmed version that has Tilley’s unique Airflo technology, you are ventilated with moisture-wicking Hydrofil and it also has a durable water repellent finish.
The LTM5 has a slimmer profile than some of Tilley’s other styles, which really worked for me, actually, in this hat I’ve found perfection! It is rated UPF 50+, has a tuck away wind cord and also a mesh layer which kept my head cool in the heat. There is a discreet pocket inside the hat which is a great place to hide some cash – just in case. As already said this is the perfect hat for me but are Tilley confident in the products they produce? Well the answer to that is a resounding yes as they guarantee their hats for life, yes for life. I cannot believe there is a better recommendation than that.
The Tilley hat brand is for all those that love and live in the outdoors. Whether you are a walker, boater, kayaker, a fisherman, a farmworker, fruit picker, gardener, golfer, the list is literally endless.
I found this hat light and it did keep me cool, it is a stylish hat, rather fashionable and I loved that is was made from 100% recycled nylon, with the mesh in 100% polyester fabric. As regards fit, it is a snug fit and the suggestion is that you size up for the traditional Tilley fit which is 2 fingers inserted between your hat and your head. Weight wise this hat weighs 85g / 3oz, the brim is front: 2 5/8“, back: 2 3/4” sides: 21/8 “. The side crown height is 4”. I do hope those measurements are a help, but you can always check out Tilley’s website, which is a very comprehensive site and shows off their large range and also offers lots of tips to ensure you get the best out of you Tilley headwear. You really will be spoilt for choice, I know I was!
Now the problem with hats is that we don’t really treat them with respect, instead we bash them around quite a lot, but that isn’t a worry with the Tilley brand. I certainly give my hat a hard time, often throwing it in the back of the car with the dog, but that is just fine as you can machine wash this hat on a delicate programme or simply hand wash in cold water. Always use a mild detergent and forget using softeners or bleach. Just remember to remove the wind cord and the foam from crown pocket before washing. Then just reshape and air dry. Do not iron or dry clean.
