Pantomime season is fast approaching, and the Lyric Theatre in Carmarthen is preparing to welcome audiences on a magical adventure this Christmas with Dick Whittington. Packed with family fun, spectacular costumes, dazzling musical numbers and featuring one of the country’s finest pantomime dames, this year’s production promises to be an unforgettable festive treat.
For the fourth consecutive year, Theatrau Sir Gâr / Carmarthenshire Theatres is delighted to be partnering with one of the UK’s leading pantomime producers, Imagine Theatre, to bring this spectacular production to the Lyric stage.
Returning to his hometown of Carmarthen for a third consecutive year is the hugely popular performer Steve Elias, who will once again step into the legendary role of the pantomime dame. Steve proudly represented Carmarthen’s Lyric Theatre at the 2026 National Pantomime Awards, where he was nominated for the prestigious Stanley Baxter Award for Best Dame. Alongside an extensive performing career that includes originating roles in London’s West End, Steve is also an award-winning director and choreographer.
Audience favourite Elis James, the Carmarthen-born comedian, broadcaster and podcaster, will be joining the cast “in spirit” for a second year following his successful pantomime debut last Christmas. This year, Elis will be appearing virtually again as he takes on the role of The Spirit of the Bells, overseeing the festive chaos from above.
Taking centre stage as the adventurous Dick Whittington is the acclaimed actor and singer Gareth Elis, who returns to the Lyric after delighting audiences as Jack in the 2023 production of Jack and the Beanstalk. Gareth will be a familiar face to many younger audience members through his work as a regular presenter on S4C’s popular Saturday morning programme, Stwnsh. Originally from Carmarthen, Gareth can’t wait to return to his hometown for panto this Christmas!
Alice Mayer, originally from Anglesey, will play the role of Alice Fitzwarren. Sharing both the character’s name and determination, Alice brings a wealth of experience to the production, with an impressive background as both an actress and musician.
Scottish-born professional dancer Shaun McGregor will star as Twm the Cat. With his remarkable acrobatic ability and dynamic dance skills, Twm is sure to become a firm favourite with audiences of all ages.
She’s so good at being bad, we simply had to invite her back. Carmarthen actress and singer Alexandra George returns to the Lyric for her third pantomime appearance, this time playing the villainous Queen Rat. With powerhouse vocals and a commanding stage presence, Alexandra is set to bring plenty of mischief to this year’s production.
And completing the principal cast is the irrepressible Nathan Guy, who returns to Carmarthen to play the lovable rogue Idle Jack. A highly experienced pantomime performer, Nathan has appeared in Imagine Theatre productions for more than a decade and is thrilled to be returning for another festive season filled with laughter, audience participation and a touch of Welsh magic.

- BSL-Signed Performances: 18 December at 7pm and 22 December at 2pm
- School Performances: 14-17 December, plus 10am and 1pm performances on 15 December
