A Rough Collie gathering happened earlier in July at Llanerchaeron, West Wales organised by the Ceredigion based Stefani Flower, owner and breeder of Serenlas Collies. There are many of these gatherings taking place throughout the UK but an annual one is held in the wonderful setting of the National Trust property at Llanerchaeron. The focus is for those with Rough Collies and those interested in owning a Rough Collie, to gather for a lovely country walk around the Llanerchaeron property. After the walk everyone can sit, relax and chat for a very pleasant afternoon, the main topic of conversation of course is Rough Collies! But the collies, having enjoyed their walk happily settle in the shade just outside Contis’ café at Llanerchaeron.
The Rough Collie is a native breed to the UK originally used as a herding dog. This breed is also well known as a ‘Lassie’ collie having once been extremely popular after the TV series, books and films with Lassie, the Rough Collie, of course taking top billing. The Lassie Collie was also a much loved breed of Queen Victoria.
The Lassie Rough Collie is a highly intelligent and loyal breed of dog which is very easy to train, as every collie owner will testify, because the Rough Collie is a dog that simply wants to please. Sadly this beautiful breed is no longer as popular as it was which is a huge shame as the Rough Collie is a dog that is so easy to live with and very quickly becomes part of your family. You’ll find that the Rough Collie is happy to walk miles, share your sofa or just curl at your feet. The Rough Collie is particularly good as a family dog as they have a great love for children. The glamorous coat of the Rough Collie is a joy to see and is not as difficult to maintain as you might think. Just a weekly brush will maintain that beautiful coat.
