Why did we want to review this book? It started back in July when the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society announced that Sara Cox together with her father Leonard Cox would be judging the Interbreed Beef Young Handler competition, on the Wednesday of the Royal Welsh Show. www.welshcountry.co.uk/royal-welsh-sees-radio-2-presenter-sara-cox-as-guest-judge/
What does Sara Cox know about cattle never mind judging a young Handler Competition? Well after reading this book she is more than qualified and has years of experience behind her.
Many of you will know Sara Cox as a DJ, a TV and Radio 2 Drivetime presenter. On Radio 2 Sara comes across as incredibly funny and very down-to-earth and when you read this book about her growing up in the 80s and 90’s, you’ll understand that this Lancashire lass who grew up on the family cattle farm has no airs and graces. She was the youngest of six children and she was smart enough to work out that a great way to get attention from the grown-ups was to make them laugh and that comes through clearly on her radio show.
This is very much a memoir of her life on the farm with her family surrounded by cows, ponies and tractors. Sara was and still is very much an animal lover. As you’d expect from Sara this is a very funny read, it’s heartening and a book I think her children will not only love, but will certainly relate too as there is nothing they like better than visiting Grandad’s farm and having the fun and adventures that Sara herself had as a child.
Sara is a wonderful writer and she certainly didn’t waste her time taking A level English literature.
If you are looking for a gift that will please, then this is it. It is a wonderful, witty and joyful read.
