Tywi Valley Open Studios

Tywi Valley Open Studios was established to enable artists to share their working practices with the general public. Rarely does anyone get to see who the artist is, where they work or hear why they make what they do.

The Tywi Valley sometimes spelt Towy Valley follows the river Towy the longest river in Wales from its source in the Cambrian Mountains to Pendine Sands. The open studios limits its geography to a 15 mile radius of Llandeilo.

2023 is the ninth year of the Tywi Valley Open Studios Arts Trail. This year there are 31 artists and craftspeople opening their studios and homes to the public, free of charge for 9 days between 29th July – 6th August. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore an area that in the past few years has become home to one of the highest concentrations of artists living and working in Wales. During the week not only will you be delighted by the huge variety of work being made on your doorstep in the Tywi Valley but you will have a chance to discover how artists work, have a chat to them and even have a go yourself in one of the many workshops available during the week.

There is no entrance fee, however some studios are not open all of the time, so please check the individual artist’s pages within the guide (link below) so that you can plan your visits.

Within the Tywi Valley Open Studios guide there are also suggested trails this year to make it easier for you to plan visits in the same area.

Some artists will be doing demonstrations, holding workshops and putting on events. The dates and times for these will be on the workshops page again within the guide.

The artists have all been given a studio number which corresponds with the numbers on the map. Each of the artists’ entry is colour coded for easy visual indication of what discipline each artist does. There is a key for this which includes the symbols used indicating facilities at each studio, plus a summary about each artist with brief directions.

For extended details of each artist and the work they do and full directions plus all the opening times of each studio on our website at www.tywivalleyopenstudios.wales Remember that studios aren’t always open throughout the whole nine days of the Arts Trail and opening times may vary.
