John Spencer, Duke VIII of Spencer: Father of Diana of Wales

Over the years we have seen different hierarchies and generations in countries around the world. England is one of the countries with the most history in living memory. You can remember from dukes like Edward Stafford to one of the longest reigning queens: Queen Elizabeth II. Elizabeth II reigned for more than 70 years until she passed away last September 8th in her castle in Scotland.

However, beyond the recognition of who was the Queen of England, one of the most beloved people in the world was, is and will be Diana, Princess of Wales. But few know the history of her family. The people’s Princess was the fourth daughter of the Duke VIII of Spencer. Therefore, she grew up in an aristocratic family in the United Kingdom.

But who was Princess Diana of Wales’ father? We are talking about Edward John Spencer. He was the second son of Albert Spencer and he obtained the title of Duke VIII of Spencer on 9th June 1975, after his father died at the age of 83. At the time, Diana was only 14 years old.

Once her father was made a Duke, Diana Spencer and her sisters were named “Lady”. Therefore, the first wife of Charles of Wales was referred to as Lady Diana or Lady Di, in a shortened version and known worldwide.

Who is the father of Princess Diana of Wales?

As mentioned above, John Spencer is Princess Diana’s father, and was an aristocrat close to both King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. In both cases, the Duke VIII of Spencer served as equerry to both reigns, the former from 1950 to 1952 and the latter from 1952 to 1954.

Lady Di’s father was also made a Member of the Royal Victorian Order in 1954. This distinction was bestowed on him by who would later be his daughter’s mother-in-law, Elizabeth II. So John Spencer was close to the royal family from a young age. The young Spencer could be seen up close and personal with British cultural luminaries such as Churchill and Queen Elizabeth II herself at the horse races. Today, this sport is still presented on many online gambling sites. Such sites must be legal to gamble on both casino and sports games. Providers such as Betway, amongst others, have a wide repertoire of slots, casino games and sports betting, where you can bet on horse racing and other sports. In addition, online casinos allow you to practice with free games before depositing real money, checking the RTP of the game or the different odds on bets. Both gambling and sports betting were present in the life of Duke VIII.

As time went by, the relationship with the royal family grew stronger. Consequently, Prince Charles of Wales showed interest in John Spencer’s eldest daughter, Sarah Spencer. The Royal Family welcomed the romance, but Lady Di’s older sister was not willing to be the wife of the heir to the throne of the United Kingdom, as he had a reputation as a womaniser.

Moreover, since then, it was well known among the small circle of British aristocracy that Charles of Wales was having an extramarital affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, so Sara Spencer, now Sara McCorqudale, decided that she did not want to be the wife of that kind of man.

Besides, for Diana of Wales clearly wanted to be the wife of Charles of Wales, with whom she had fallen in love from an early age. It was no big deal to marry him, even though they had only met a couple of times before the wedding and knew very little about each other, not to mention the age difference.

When Lady Di and Charles of Wales married on 29th July 1981 in St Paul’s Cathedral, Princess Diana was just 19 years old, while the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II was 32. There was a difference between them of 13 years, which in the end had an impact on their marriage and divorce. From this relationship two children were born, one of whom would one day go on to become King of England.
