Get Closer to the Wales Coast Path with Transport for Wales
Getting to the Wales Coast Path has never been easier. Leave the car at home and enjoy stunning views as you head to some of the most scenic parts of Wales by train.
Home to some of Wales’ most beautiful views, the path is 870 miles long, spans the entire length of Wales’s coast, and is considered the first dedicated coast path in the world to do so.
Exploring the coast path doesn’t mean having to fill up the car. Much of the path can be reached by train, offering a more sustainable and relaxing option for your next adventure. There’s no need to wait until you’ve reached your destination to start taking in the incredible views that the Welsh coast has to offer – it’s common knowledge that train journeys in Wales are some of the most beautiful in the world.
Here are some areas of the route which are most easily accessed by train:
Llandudno
Just 0.9 miles from the railway station you’ll find the biggest seaside resort in Wales. Llandudno boasts breath-taking views, fun-packed piers and a 6-mile-long coastal walk along the rocky paths of North Wales. You can travel to Llandudno by train, either on direct services into the town, or by changing at Llandudno Junction.

With its beautifully preserved Victorian seafront, colourful hotels and seafront architecture, Llandudno is one of the top places to visit in North Wales. Head to The Great Orme to enjoy an incredible coastal landmark 200m above sea level. Here you’ll find stunning views, and if you’re lucky, some happy Welsh goats too.
Tenby
Transport for Wales has several trains that allow you to get to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with ease. Tenby offers one of the most popular routes along the Wales Coast Path and is a favourite for beginners and experienced walkers alike. And better yet, Tenby coast is only 0.4 miles from Tenby railway station.
With highlights like Castle Beach, St Catherine’s Island and Tenby Castle, this section of the path is a great day out with views and historical sites aplenty.
From Tenby seafront you can head south to discover the remains of Tenby’s castle, explore South Beach and then continue towards Penally to see the famous, towering cliffs.
Cardiff Bay
Join the Wales Coast Path in Wales’ capital, only a short walk away from Cardiff Bay train station. The Cardiff section of the Wales Coast Path covers just over 15km. You can enjoy a tranquil alternative to busy city centres by starting in Cardiff Bay and enjoy sites such as the Norwegian Church and the Pierhead; an historic 19th century Grade One listed building. Walk from Cardiff Bay along the isolated seawall to Newport, enjoying spectacular views of the Bristol Channel and some of the most beautiful spots both cities have to offer, without the noise of crowds or the obscured views of large buildings.

Getting outside and exploring the great outdoors is just a train-ride away.
