The Giant Ladybird

The giant ladybird filled Aurora’s eyes with an immediate sense of awe. Sat comfortably with her knees tucked up tight on her old Edwardian sofa Aurora knew immediately that what she had just seen was not of this world.

The heat of day might have affected Aurora’s sensibility; her overthinking about her job prospects weighed heavily; and her constant pressures of duty to kindness prevailed.

But Aurora responded to the situation with both sensibility and immediacy;

Had she really seen what she actually thought she saw?

A giant ladybird?

Was it as large as she thought it might have been?

Could it have been just a trick of the eye?

Or had she just fallen asleep and actually dreamt it all up?

As a child Aurora had often imagined such extraordinary things: frequently locking eyes with an amber eyed giraffe that daily paraded past her bedroom window taxiing her best friends to school; mischievous marmoset monkeys that swung and hung from the village street lamps that took to the habit of a snatching old lady’s hats, and kind and slow overgrown tortoises bought from the local pet shop by her grandma that began grazing on more than just a slice of tomato or a curly lettuce leaf. Aurora’s fantastical childhood had been at times- a joyful cinematic world of her own imagination.

Aurora- now back with a good book in hand decided to re-settle her childish thoughts and mindfully pulled up her knees once again to read.

Launching itself up; opening out its triumphant wings, and plateauing high above the Griselinia- the Giant Ladybird gracefully took flight once again.
