Fun Land, Towyn’s beloved funfair, is welcoming guests for the first time following owner Adam Williams’ significant transformation of the amusement park. Ambitious investment has been made in the hope of turning Fun Land into a must-see destination on the Welsh coast.
Acquiring the expansive 50-acre site from Conwy County Council late last year, the Tir Prince Leisure Group embarked on an exciting journey of expansion which included utilising space that was once part of the car park. It means the addition of approximately 3,000 square metres, allowing for the inclusion of exciting new rides.
Home not only to the funfair but also boasting a harness racing racetrack and a bustling outdoor market, Tir Prince has long been a cherished destination for locals and tourists alike. However, Williams envisions a future where the funfair stands as a beacon of innovation and excitement, with the expansion paving the way for the introduction of thrilling new experiences.
The expansion project represents just the initial phase of Tir Prince’s ambitious vision for the future. Williams wants to create a dynamic space that not only caters to the evolving preferences of visitors but also sets new standards for quality and innovation in the region’s entertainment offerings.
Ambitious plans
Fun Land’s owners are determined to make the funfair one of the world’s best, adding to the UK’s history of top-class fairground parks. Indeed, last year, Newcastle Upon Tyne unveiled Europe’s largest funfair spanning a one-kilometre site and featuring over 400 rides. Elsewhere, the internationally famous Pleasure Beach is home to one of the world’s tallest and fastest rollercoasters, The Big One.
The UK has a strong affection for funfairs. Amusement parks of this kind have been around since the 1800s, growing in popularity during the Victorian era. The industry is now worth around £1bn to the economy each year. It’s not surprising to see the thrill of fairground rides emerge in other forms of pop culture too.
As well as amusement parks being notable backdrops to several British films such as Tony Richardson’s A Taste of Honey and John Boulting’s Brighton Rock, there’s the FunFair boardgame from Good Games Publishing in which players try to build the best theme park in town. The funfair is also the setting for Fluffy Favourites, a popular online 5×3 slot game featuring cute characters such as Hippo, Dragon and Bear, and 25 paylines.
New rides coming to Fun Land
Visitors to Fun Land in 2024 will get to enjoy the funfair’s new rides. Among the latest additions are the adrenaline-pumping Rapids, the gravity-defying Sky Dancer Star Flyer, the whimsical Police Station Fun House, and the delightful Snow Slide.
Returning to delight visitors are the classic favourites including the spine-tingling Spinning Coaster, the ever-popular Waltzer, the dizzying Twist, and the exhilarating Matterhorn and Miami.
With these new additions and exciting events, Fun Land continues to solidify its status as a premier destination for fun and entertainment in Towyn, promising endless excitement and cherished memories for visitors.
