Simply Sew Special the creation of Lindsey Irving. From an early age I was so inspired by the beautiful array of fabrics, buttons and trims in my grandmother’s sewing box, I taught myself to sew on her vintage treadle machine.
Today through Simply Sew Special Lindsey has made the making of bags and purses her passion. My product range includes bags, purses, wallets, tablet and phone covers, plus other accessories, although I am constantly looking for new ideas to enhance my skills and product offering.
Lindsey told Welsh Country more about her business:
“I search for and work with the very best of fabrics including designer cottons, wool, Harris Tweed, tapestry, canvas, faux leather and cork fabric, transforming them into a selection of beautiful Simply Sew Special products.
“Patterns are sourced from both UK and international designers and I now also draft some of my own. Each design is carefully chosen to compliment the particular fabric, with the aim of producing distinctive Simply Sew Special items, which are still very practical to use.
“The fabric pieces for each item are then individually cut out by hand. Various interfacings and stabilisers are added to give each item the correct amount of softness and structure and complimentary hardware and fastenings are chosen. The fabric pieces are then sewn together in various stages to produce the finished item. Any additional straps or fastenings are then added and after a final press the item is complete ready for sale through Simply Sew Special.
“I still use a vintage sewing machine, along with an industrial strength machine for the heavier fabrics.
