Performing arts students at Coleg Ceredigion have been working with a professional dance company, currently touring Wales, in a production which invited students to perform with them in their opening scene.
Ransack Dance Company, based near Cardiff, delivered workshops at the college’s dance studio at Aberystwyth campus where first and second year, level three students, learned and rehearsed the routine for the dance company’s production of Us and Them.
Us and Them took to the stage on 8 February at Theatr y Werin in Aberystwyth Arts Centre and explores togetherness and separation and connecting and disconnecting.
Ransack Dance Company use contemporary techniques, using risk taking, athletic, contemporary dance interspersed with poetic subtlety to tell their stories.
The experience of working with a professional dance company is enriching and invaluable for students in shaping their artistic vision and nurturing their growth as dancers.
Dilys Rose Roberts, Coleg Ceredigion performing and production arts student said:
“I’ve had an absolute blast working with a few of the lovely crew from Ransack. It has been a great insight to dancing in the industry, which is gold dust at our level.”
Fellow student Serene Rowlands added:
“I really enjoyed working with Ransack because they kept the energy up throughout the two days we worked with them and allowed us all to bring our own ideas to the table.
“It was really exciting to learn new ways of moving that break away from traditional dance techniques that I often see.
“It was great to be given a concept and then create something with my own interpretation of it. I loved every second of working with the Ransack dance company and would be more than happy to work with them again in the future.”
Solveig Frykman-Lloyd Coleg Ceredigion performing arts lecturer added:
“I’m immensely proud of all our students and how brilliantly they have responded to this project.”
