Going on holiday is practically a right, and one that you should be able to invoke at least twice a year. Of course, holidays have gotten a little harder to justify in recent years, with the spike in cost of package holidays and the otherwise-expanding cost of living besides.
That said, holidaymaking shouldn’t be put altogether to one side in favour of a more affordable, more miserable year of life. There are better ways – and better in a number of ways, too. It might even be said that your next holiday should unequivocally be enjoyed from the driver’s seat of a campervan. But why? What follow are some of the main reasons for which campervan holidays will reign supreme in the coming years, from cost-effectiveness to comfort and beyond.
It’s Cheaper
Firstly, and perhaps most obviously of all, campervanning is cheaper than most other forms of holidaymaking. On the base level, you are eschewing the costs associated with booking hotels or bed and breakfasts – which can balloon considerably in the summer months, and in response to tourist demand. You are also reducing your expenditure on travel, where rail and buses can carry a pretty penny in today’s pricey times.
Of course, there are some necessary expenditures to make your campervan travel safe, legal and comfortable – including the taking-out of campervan insurance to remain road-legal, and the ensuring that all your other documents are up to date as you travel. These costs are a drop in the ocean compared to the costs that larger travel plans and associated administration can incur.
It’s Comfortable
Campervan travel is not just a cut-price option for exploring the UK (and indeed Europe, should you wish); it is also an eminently comfortable way to get around. Your driving seat will be immensely preferable to whichever economy seat you find yourself crammed in on a short-haul flight, let alone the exposed aisle seats of any UK train.
Wherever you find yourself for the evening, you are also guaranteed a set quality of sleep, according to the bed you’ve made for yourself in the back. Comfort also extends to other home comforts like cooking and beverages, where you can cook food to your own tastes and even wake up to your favourite morning beverage without compromise.
It’s Modular
Finally, yet crucially, there is the nature of campervan travel in itself. By choosing to take yourself and your accommodation out on the road, you are not only rejecting the exorbitant cost of alternative arrangements, but also the prohibitive frameworks that come with them.
Booking a train or flight requires you to work with their schedule, arrive early for your connection and even risk extensive waits due to unforeseen delays. Driving enables you to determine your own travel schedule, and gives you a comfortable contingency if you find yourself stuck in place unexpectedly!
