5 Must-see Music Festivals in the UK

With the iconic Glastonbury Festival currently underway in Somerset, summer has well and truly arrived in the United Kingdom.

Dubbed as ‘magical’ in a recent Betway feature, Glastonbury is widely recognised as one of the most important festivals of the year.

It always attracts an extremely strong line-up, but is also a proving ground for emerging talent across different musical genres.

Despite this, many music fans may find the prospect of shoulders with more than 200,000 people at the five-day event a little overwhelming.

Thankfully there are plenty of other alternatives, so read on as we highlight five music festivals well worth visiting in the future.

FOCUS Wales

Wrexham has become a hotbed for music in recent times, with bands such as The Royston Club helping to put the town on the map.

FOCUS Wales has given the four-piece and other acts plenty of exposure, with the event attracting more than 10,000 music fans to North Wales.

In addition to showcasing Wales’ emerging musical talent, there is also a full schedule of arts events, film screenings, stand-up comedy and much more.

Isle of Wight Festival

Revived back in 2002, the legendary Isle of Wight Festival at Seaclose Park  has grown massively in stature over the past 20 years.

It offers a one of the most diverse line-ups you will find at a festival, with every popular music genre you can think of represented during the event.

Top rock band Muse put on a stunning headline show this year to continue the tradition of global superstars performing at the festival.

Lytham Festival

Lytham Festival has grown from a single night community Proms-style concert into a spectacular five-day live music event.

It attracts more than 70,000 people to the north west each summer and regularly attracts some of the most famous music acts on the planet.

Previous headliners include Billy Ocean, Tom Jones, Faithless and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Rod Stewart, Kylie Minogue and Stereophonics.

Kendall Calling

Kendal Calling was the brainchild of a group of music lovers who felt the fantastic Lake District fields could be home to a summer extravaganza.

First staged in 2006, the event was chosen as Best Small Festival by Live UK after a stunning headline set by American rock legends Blondie.

James, Maximo Park, The Vaccines, Kaiser Chiefs, Courteeners, Manic Street Preachers and Franz Ferdinand are amongst the acts who have performed at the festival in recent years.

Green Man Festival

Held annually in mid-August in the Brecon Beacons, the Green Man Festival is the largest contemporary music and arts event in Wales.

It predominantly showcases live music across several genres including alternative, indie, rock, folk, dance and Americana.

The festival site is divided into ten areas, hosting literature, comedy, film, theatre, science, wellness and family-friendly acts.
