Wilko Johnson is a legendary singer, guitarist, songwriter and actor who played with the rhythm and blues band Dr Feelgood in the 70s, later joined Ian Dury’s band, The Blockheads, and most recently starred in cult tv series Game of Thrones. Johnson and Dr Feelgood have been credited as one of the founding influences of the English punk movement. Paul Weller has said of Johnson: ‘Wilko may not be as famous as some other guitarists, but he’s right up there. And there are a lot of people who’ll say the same. I can hear Wilko in lots of places. It’s some legacy’. Johnson recently played to a sold out Royal Albert Hall with Roger Daltry of The Who, and this September he will be playing in Hawarden at The Good Life Experience as part of the Friday night line-up.
If you haven’t already got your tickets, seeing Wilko Johnson live is reason enough, but on top of that The Good Life (18-20 September) offers a whole weekend of music, food, books and The Great Outdoors. The line-up includes everything from Ben Fogle, to top chef Thomasina Miers and baker Tom Herbert, to adventurers, foragers and makers, and an exciting and eclectic mix of music, all chosen by festival co-founder and BBC 6 Music’s Cerys Matthews. You can get your tickets here online, or at the till both in the Farm Shop and at The Glynne Arms. It’s not often that you find a festival like this on your doorstep; this one’s not to be missed!
