October 2018 Update
Humanimal Trust supported by Tweedies including Craft Fairs
Humanimal Trust has a message about animal and human medicine that Tweedies wholly support. But Tweedies also have their own creation of hybrid bears bringing together tweeds from very different traditional mills & adding their own crafting magic to create this new hydrid.
Patricia Clanzy Hodge tells Welsh Country of this new innovation & her work with Humanimal Trust over the coming months
“Tweedies and I are proud to introduce our newest patchwork bears, Bethan and Meira who feature on our advert, and Catrin our very first HYBRID bear.
When a length of fabric is coming to an end and is no longer enough to make a whole bear, and that particular tweed is no longer available at Trefriw Woollen Mill, the answer is to team it up with another so that both fabrics compliment each other.
Bethan uses her original dark purple tweed and teams it with an off white/mauve herringbone. Her feet and ears are shades of lavender and white.
Meira on the other hand is a Christmas explosion of browns and oranges which look fabulous together. Her ears and feet are one brown and one orange.
Catrin our first hybrid bear uses a beautiful turquoise tweed from Trefriw and a dusky pink tweed from Jamieson’s Spinning Mill on Shetland. Her feet and ears are pink and turquoise.
Patchwork bears are fun to make. Not only do the pattern pieces have to be fitted together like a colour block jigsaw puzzle, but the bears have odd ears and odd felt feet too, all to be pinned in the right places.
More patchwork bears are to follow with four pieces of fabric waiting to be cut out. So watch out for them on our website. www.tweedies.biz

The Trust drives the collaboration between Vets, Doctors and Researchers, so that all humans and animals benefit from sustainable and equal medical progress but not at the expense of an animal’s life. This is One Medicine and Tweedies wholly support this.
More information can be found on our website and a link for making donations direct to the Trust. I have created a little Teddy called PADDY FITZANIMAL and he will on my Christmas Craft stalls along with all the other bears and mice.
Happy Christmas everyone.”

Update July 2015
“Here at Tweedies we are delighted to announce the arrival of even larger bears called “Bearies”. As you can see from the picture they are approximately 30% larger than the existing Huggies, but still with all the traditional features of a Tweedie.
Bearies are big and cuddly, will all be OOAK (One of a Kind), and come with hand knitted hats, scarves, and a coordinated knitted tank top as well. No chance of these bears getting cold in the Winter!
Bearies are due to be launched at the National Doll and Teddy Fair in Birmingham’s National Motorcycle Museum (opposite the NEC) on Sunday 20th September 2015, just in time for that all important Christmas shopping. Orders for bespoke bears will also be taken that day as samples of stock tweeds and yarns will be available for mixing and matching.
The full range of Tweedies can be seen on our website www.tweedies.biz , together with our 10th anniversary bear and mouse, Anna and Belle. Beautifully handcrafted in a cream tweed and coordinating yarns, embroidery silks and felts, they are a celebration of Tweedies history and together with the rest of the collection, make original and special gifts to treasure forever.”
May 2015 update

Following a very successful launch at the National Doll & Teddy Fair in Birmingham on March 22nd this year, Tweedies 10th anniversary bear called Anna, and paperweight mouse called Belle, are now available on-line, at craft fairs or by telephone/postal ordering.
The beautiful cream tweed woven by Jamieson’s of Shetland, teamed with cream, palest pink, and beige yarns has created two stunning individuals. Anna is priced at £40 and Belle at £30 with postage extra.

They are getting bigger too! Having created award winning Teddies, Huggies, and paperweight mice over the last 10 years, Tweedies are getting ready to introduce the Bearies in the Autumn, just in time for that all important Christmas shopping. An anticipated 30% bigger than the Huggies, and made in a variety of checked tweeds they will have all the special features of the other bears with the addition of a coordinated knitted tank top.

March 2015 update
Anna and Belle celebrate Tweedies 10 years of excellence
2015 promises to be an exciting year for Tweedies. A third award for excellence in British Craft, and we are celebrating our 10th anniversary by launching Anna and Belle our special limited edition bear and mouse.
On a remote western corner of Mainland Shetland, the most beautiful tweed has been woven by Jamieson’s Spinning Ltd. especially for the occasion. The overall effect of the cloth is soft and creamy and will be teamed with soft creams, pinks and beige tones to create their knitted and felt clothes.
Anna and Belle will be launched at the National Doll and Teddy Bear Fair on March 22nd at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.
Other bears are being created too. When designer tweeds are coming to an end we team them up with plain cloth to create patchwork bears. Three of these are already on the website and more will follow. My pile of tweed gets ever higher and joy in seeing each new creation come to life is immense.
Each bear and mouse is handcrafted with a whole lot of love and are eagerly awaiting their forever homes in 2015. You can catch up with us at craft fairs (full list posted on the website), order by email or simply call me for details.
