Contemporary Welsh landscape painter Sarah Jane Brown is pleased to announce that she is launching a new exhibition of paintings in Off The Wall Gallery, Cardiff in November. Titled ‘My Peninsularity’, this solo exhibition explores the experience of living in a remote and ancient landscape, drawing upon the themes of isolation and sense of place.
Living here in the unique landscape of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the sense of isolation, powerful and humbling, inspires Sarah Jane’s richly expressive and explorative work. Following on from the success of her recent exhibition ‘This Hallowed Coast’ held in The Cloisters Gallery, St Davids Cathedral in September, this new exhibition develops this perspective of isolation, presenting an insightful, compelling portfolio of landscape paintings.
“The landscape reminds me of the important things in life”, says Sarah Jane Brown. “This geographical isolation makes me a different person, allows me to observe, to view the world objectively. You can walk out onto St David’s Head, a remote protected landscape, and know that a thousand years ago it wasn’t any different. I feel less caught up with insignificant stuff, it’s much more about what’s important, what’s fundamental.”
Off The Wall Gallery, based in Llandaff, Cardiff, is situated in The Old Probate Registry, a beautifully refined Victorian building originally built in 1851. The gallery space is friendly and relaxed, supporting the gallery’s aim to bring contemporary art to a wider audience.
‘My Peninsularity’ exhibition will run from 5th to 30th November. Venue: Off The Wall Gallery, The Old Probate Registry, 49 Cardiff Rd, Llandaff, Cardiff CF5 2DQ. Opening hours: 9.30am- 5.30pm Tues-Fri, 10am-4pm Sat. Website: www.galleryoffthewall.com
