The Producers Market at the Monmouthshire Food Festival will once again have Stainswick cold pressed rape oil.
Stainswick rape oil is produced by the Sanderson family, who are the 4th generation of farmers at Stainswick Farm which is located on the picturesque Oxfordshire/Wiltshire border. As experienced arable farmers they recognise the importance of caring for the environment as well as providing a high quality crop and we are pleased to have them with us again at Monmouthshire
They are passionate about providing their customers with a quality, healthy, natural and fully traceable product. The red tractor logo means that they can tell which field all their rapeseed oil grown, traceability second to none.
The rapeseed is grown, pressed and bottled on the farm minimising food miles and maximising quality and taste. They can genuinely state that they grow, press and bottle all their rape oil on their family farm!
The farm uses modern precision farming techniques to ensure that inputs of fertiliser & seed are only used where needed. The rapeseeds are combined in the field and then transferred to the farm where the seeds are cleaned before being gently squeezed to extract the rapeseed oil. This process is called cold pressing, this means the seeds are simply squeezed without heat or chemicals therefore retaining all of the oils natural goodness.
The golden rapeseed oil is very versatile as it has a subtle nutty taste which is not as overpowering and dominant as olive oil. It is a great asset in the kitchen and can be used for everything from salad dressings, to stir frying and baking. It is packed with goodness and is also a very healthy oil to use. The nutritional value of rape oil is impressive. It is low in saturated fat and very high in both monounsaturates Omega 9 and polyunsaturates Omega 3 and Omega 6. Cold pressed rape oil contains half the saturated fat of olive oil. It also has a higher smoke point than olive oil which makes it a better option for frying and roasting.
If this all seems a bit technical, Helen will be happy to explain why rape oil is the healthiest oil you can use.
