D I F A
by Dewi Wyn Williams
During the next few weeks, Theatr Bara Caws will be touring their latest production, DIFA by Dewi Wyn Williams, around Wales performing at Aberystwyth Arts Centre Wednesday 25 November 2015. Dewi hails originally from Pensarn, Anglesey, but now lives in Cardiff. He was awarded the Drama Medal at the Cardiganshire National Eisteddfod in 2014.
According to the playwright, DIFA is a poignant, humorous, personal play, giving audiences the opportunity to laugh and cry, often at the same time, taking them on a veritable roller coaster of emotions.
The play unfolds in the head of Oswald Pritchard, translator, as he teeters on the edge of insanity. Os has recently been made redundant, and is terrified of losing the love of Mona, his wife. We go with him to meet his ex-boss, Peter and the psychiatrist Dr King, and are afforded a glimpse of his unconventional marital life, as he swings from one emotion to the next, offering pithy suggestions and entertaining reflections on the world.
According to Betsan Llwyd, Artistic Director of Theatr Bara Caws, whilst preparing for the production, it became more and more apparent that the main theme of DIFA – mental health – is a subject which should be explored and given a wider public platform. Theatre, in particular, can provide this opportunity in a cultural context, and can hopefully continue to stimulate discussion on such all-important issues which can affect us all.
The company is looking forward to presenting DIFA throughout Wales, and wishes to thank Cwmni Atebol (Atebol Company), Aberystwyth for publishing the script, which will be for sale before each performance in all venues.
