Cynth Weyman’s ‘Diary of an Artist’ series depicting behind the scenes of an artist, will be shown at ‘inspired 2 collect’ gallery Carmarthen, during March and April. Many of you have seen ‘Retire to Wear Purple, No Chance! – this is just a taste of what’s to come. Several themes are on-going. There’s always something new to join the collections of this very different and intriguing approach to fabrics. She developed and named her textile relief technique as Intaglio Strati.
Visitors often comment ‘The colours drew me in’, so why not pop in, take a look, discuss techniques and find out a lot more. Cynth creates her artworks in paint and textiles at her gallery. ‘Five Rock Women’ is her latest piece, inspired by her earlier ‘What a Haven’: Haroldston Chins art quilt.
Don’t only look in the windows – why not pop inside to see lots more and ask lots of questions. Croeso i bawb. A warm welcome awaits.
Weekly ‘Have a Go’ demonstrations run with experienced dressmakers and embroiderers who wish to explore the artistic side of textile art. Gill’s first piece ‘My Great Effort! – and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute’ is stunning and proudly hangs on her living room wall.
Remember inspired 2 collect gallery’s Christmas window ‘Blue Reindeers for Blue Street’ 2014? Chamber of Trade & Commerce Carmarthen voted it in third place. Great news to celebrate Cynth’s first six months running her own gallery.
During January – February 2015, visitors saw ‘Hidden Strengths’ triptych in water-colours and their related 6ft high textile reliefs created in the 1980’s whilst working in Yorkshire. Conversation pieces were designed for staircases, landings and major exhibitions. Lots of ideas for storytelling commissions! A special sculpture accompanied the exhibition. ‘The Cake’ in Elm wood was created by the Hidden Strengths Women’s Arts Group Leeds. Cynth’s slice includes a textile relief Indian female singer and carved wooden male musicians.
Many of her ‘my posh scarves’ collection inspired by her textile reliefs, sold in the summer and at Christmas. She has designed another series to be released in late Spring 2015. All proudly created and finished in Wales by the Welsh speaking artist herself.
Intaglio Strati pictures and art quilts include cotton, fine wool and Rajasthan silks. Cynth Weyman started with 5 fabric layers whilst in Leeds. Since returning to her Welsh roots in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, she has continued to develop her textile relief technique and now carves into 14. Layers are cut back to reveal luscious textures, colours and fascinating stories. Akin to stained glass in design, Cynth’s technique, developed and named by herself, is in fabrics carefully selected on her travels.
Cynth Weyman is also keen to inspire Interior Décor Designers and Architects. Her artworks are especially suited to historic buildings with contemporary twists. Themes include Seascapes – Pembrokeshire; Botanical – Fungi & Aberglasney Gardens; Towy Valley Carmarthenshire; Creative Journeys, Diary of an Artist; Rock Woman, Hidden Strengths and ‘my posh scarves’.
High quality giclee reproductions include prints on paper and silk. Cards are also available. Cynth searches for the unusual that inspires even more artworks, so there’s always a surprise in store. If your hunting for something different, you’ll find something to suit every budget too.
