At Saturday 4th June at 12:30 Bill King will be in the Demonstration Theatre at the Monmouthshire Food Festival showing how easy it is to make lots of different kinds of bread.
Bill King trained at the world renowned Ballymaloe Cookery School under Darina and Rachel Allen and Rory O’Connell. Bread was made every day at the cookery school and it was here that Bill fell totally in love with making bread. Bill thoroughly enjoyed his training in Ireland and all the new skills that he had learned.
Returning to Wales, Bill set up a micro bakery, initially baking at home and selling at Llanyrafon Manor Market. This is where Bill sold his first loaf and still sells at the Market. As his business expanded Bill realised that he could no longer bake at home. He decided to set up in a shared unit to cope with the increase in business. He bakes to order for customers who want fresh bread with no additives, enhancers, improvers or preservatives. He also supplies a number of local delicatessens.
Starting with “Baking for Fun” for beginners, returners or people who have previously ‘baked a brick’, a range of courses are available. For the more experienced there are courses on Italian Breads, Flavoured and Fruit Breads, and for the experienced/adventurous Sourdough.
As a trained cook Bill also does cookery courses, usually combined with some bread, to create a complete meal.
The popular and entertaining “Hands on Dough” sessions are regularly found at Food Festivals and at groups such as the WI. Bill has also done some Team Development days with attendees taking part in ‘The Great British Bread Off’,
As a member of the Real Bread Campaign, Bill wants to get more people baking and eating real bread.
