Brecon Beacons National Park Authority is poised to begin an exciting new project delving into the history of the National Park Visitor Centre, near Libanus. The National Park Visitor Centre opened its doors in 1966 as the Mountain Centre but before that the land was part of Caeharn Farm - a small holding which was farmed for more than a hundred years. Do you know who lived there? Would you like to help tell the story of local farming life in the early 20th Century?
The historical research will form part of a new interpretation panel on the site of the old farm cottage at the Centre which will tell the story of the people who worked on the land, visited the farm or have interesting memories of the farm and the people who lived there. Whether stacking hay in an old barn or gathering sheep in from the common, childhood memories from an old farm can take you on a nostalgic trip down memory lane. So, if you or your family remember those halcyon days at Caeharn Farm, near Libanus, then the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority would like to hear from you.
Visitor Centre Warden Natalie Fisher said "We've long been aware of Caeharn Farm's importance in the site's history- in fact, some of our staff can remember it being demolished in the late 1960s. We're thrilled we now have an opportunity to tell its story. What we already know is that the Price family lived in the cottage up until the early 1950s. They then sold it to Brecknock County Council.
"We want to hear your stories about the farm and its occupants over the last hundred years or so- it's a fantastic piece of social history, and we'd like you to help us tell it. It would be a real privilege to hear those wonderful anecdotes and personal stories from those who've worked on or known people at Caeharn."
So anyone who has any information, photographs or newspaper cuttings or would like to share their memories of Caeharn is invited to contact Natalie Fisher at the National Park Visitor Centre on (01874) 623366, or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
