Monmouthshire Food Festival is delighted culinary super star Chris Harrod is returning to cook in the Chef’s Theatre on Saturday 20th May.
Chris Harrod is Chef/ Patron of The Whitebrook, a Restaurant with rooms, tucked away in the beautifully peaceful Wye Valley.
Chris Harrod had an ambition to be a chef from the age of seven. His dreams started to take shape when he worked alongside Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons. Chris’s first position as Head Chef was at Colette’s, the flagship restaurant of the newly opened 5-star hotel, The Grove, in Hertfordshire where he achieved 3 AA rosettes.
In 2013 Chris and his wife Kirsty realised their dream of opening their own restaurant, within eleven months The Whitebrook was awarded a Michelin star. In 2016 Sunday Times Travel Top 100 UK Hotels – Top 10 was awarded to the Whitebrook.
The restaurant has since won an AA Wine Award for Wales and Inspectors’ Choice (Restaurant with Rooms) at the AA Hospitality Awards 2017 and has become one of only 39 restaurants in the UK to hold 4 AA Rosettes. Along with a place in the 2017 Waitrose Good Food Guide Top 50 UK Restaurants, these prestigious accolades put The Whitebrook amongst the very best restaurants in the country.
Chris Harrod makes full use of the abundant produce from within the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. Chris and his team prepare original fine cuisine from locally sourced food flavoured with freshly foraged herbs and plants. The restaurant is resolutely British, totally rooted in the local hedgerows and coastline and with a huge emphasis on foraged finds. Chris works closely with his forager Henry Ashby who forages daily for unusual ingredients for Chris to work his culinary magic.
