In the best of co-operative tradition Llanfyllin , Llanfair Caereinion shows and three other North Powys Shows collaborate to promote popular events.
In a great example of collaboration five popular agricultural shows in North Powys are again working together to promote the events.
All but one of the shows contribute points towards a coveted piece of silverware for sheep breeders. Sponsored by the County Times newspaper, a salver is awarded to the competitor that gains the most points in the sheep sections at Guilsfield, Llanfyllin, Berriew and Llanfair Caereinion shows.
The salver, which will be presented at Llanfair Caereinion Show on September 5, is a spin-off of a marketing collaboration between the four shows – together with Montgomery Show – which began in 2006.
The five show secretaries now share ideas and information with a view to improving their annual events, which are promoted in a ‘5 Local Shows’ leaflet.
“The idea of awarding a trophy as a group for the best in the sheep section is designed to encourage competitors to gain points at each of the shows,” Jill Hollinshead, Llanfyllin Show secretary. “It’s becoming more important every year that we all work together to promote and improve our shows.”
The dates of this year’s shows are: Guilsfield Show on Thursday, August 13, Montgomery Show and Llanfyllin Show on Saturday, August 15, Berriew Show on Saturday, August 29 and Llanfair Caereinion Show on Saturday, September 5.
The show secretaries are: Guilsfield, Sally Jones (01938 553110), Llanfyllin, secretary Mrs Hollinshead (01691 828628), Montgomery, Mary Bunner (01686 668658), Berriew, Anna Jones (01686 640262) and Llanfair Caereinion, Rhiannon Jones (01938 810296).
