Mid Wales Opera, in partnership with Gregynog Hall, present a unique opportunity to join in the centenary celebrations of Benjamin Britten's birth. This short residential course will give those who know Britten's operatic works the chance to explore them in depth, and offer those who are less familiar the opportunity to learn about one of Britain's greatest composers, from those who knew and worked with him.

This inspiring course will also give the public a rare opportunity to enjoy the general splendour and beautiful surroundings of Gregynog Hall in the stunning Mid Wales countryside: a place visited by Britten himself, where Peter Pears performed with harpist Osian Ellis in 1972.

The second Heart of Wales Music Festival is upon us, with a feast of talent once again to be enjoyed. Taking place from 3rd to 5th May 2013 at the Neuadd Arms Hotel in Llanwrtyd Wells, perhaps better known for its long association with all of the madcap events which take place in the town, the weekend has something for everyone.

Friday 3rd May begins the event with an evening of folk music with a distinctly Welsh feel, being provided this year by the weekend's host, Catrin O'Neill, who can turn her hand from hauntingly beautiful airs sung in her native Welsh, to rowdy Irish drinking songs accompanied only with her Bodhran. She has performed extensively around Wales and is passionate about bringing traditional Welsh music to new audiences.

Currently in its thirty fifth year, St Davids Cathedral Festival has long been considered one of the greatest classical music festivals in Britain. Set in the glorious surroundings of Pembrokeshire's Cathedral, the Festival continues to draw audiences from all over the UK and much further afield.

The Festival opens on Friday 24 May with the return of the popular Children's Festival Chorus who will perform Benjamin Britten's The Golden Vanity. Britten is a composer prevalent in this Festival programme as 2013 marks his centenary year. Friday 31 May sees a celebration of Britten's works performed by the combined talents of the boy and girl Cathedral choristers and the BBC Singers will perform his Rejoice in the Lamb on Tuesday 28 May. This concert will also feature a 2013 Festival Commission – The Farthest Shore by Paul Mealor. It will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 Live In Concert, and is sure to be one of Festival week's many highlights. The second Festival Commission, The St Davids Service by Neil Cox, will have its world premiere broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 at Choral Evensong sung by the Cathedral Choir on Wednesday 29 May.

These local musicians will play an exciting and vibrant set. Punters will recognise the effects conjured up by a bandleader and lyricist influenced by The Clash, Jam and Joe Jackson.

Compared to 'a young Paul Weller' in a recent tryout gig, Ryan Rabey sings, writes and plays rhythm guitar alongside one of the best young jazz and rock bassists in Wales, Twm Dylan, drummer Ellis Griffiths, a familiar stage presence at the Arts Centre, and the wonderful lead guitarist Jan Zeber from Poland. Ryan is also the lead singer and lyricist for the wellknown local band The UnKnown.
