Gwili Pottery are making a multimedia splash this summer as the Carmarthenshire potters get ready for appearances on the small screen and UK wide in July's edition of Vogue magazine.

Chris and the team were contacted by Vogue to feature some of their work in the home style section of July's edition and of course they jumped at the change of national coverage of their products.

They were also visited recently by a film crew, filming a segment for Heno, a magazine style show on S4C. The team were filmed performing various activities around the gallery, with their pottery being stars in its own right. The segment will be shown in the near future.

'I have just recently graduated from Hereford College of Arts where I studied a degree in Contemporary Applied Arts. Since I was a child I have always been making something, whether it using paper or drawing as I have always enjoyed just sitting down and concentrating on making something. I didn't realise until I had got older that this is something I could then do with my life. It was during my years at college that I first got interested in clay. For the last part of my degree I started experimenting by making moulds of a twisted shape that I made from paper. From these moulds I make a slip cast from them. As with slip casting each shape is the same however I make them unique by then covering them with patterns. I am inspired by fairy tales, imagination and the surreal. I take something and make it into something like from a dream. Through drawings I scan these into the computer and manipulate them on Photoshop to get designs which I put onto my vessels and plates.'

Sadie Hurley Ceramics produce handmade pieces, made in Wales. Sadie's bespoke earthenware, produced in her unique style includes the ever popular 'puzzle' and 'Strung Bead' designs. Sadie is bringing her range to the International Ceramics Festival (28th – 30th June), held at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on the campus of Aberystwyth University on the mid-Wales coast.

Since it began in 1987 the three-day festival has grown to become the UK's leading ceramics event. The Festival attracts about 1000 people who attend lectures, watch practical demonstrations and visit our special exhibitions over three days. The international demonstrators show skills and techniques on our specially adapted stage and also have their own workspaces – enabling personal discussion about their work. The focus is both practical and inspirational – kilns are built, pots are made and fired.

When a lampshade turns into a knitted hat it might spark a peculiar reaction but the creative work of student Lottie Sparks has resulted in an award by the Bradford Textiles Society.

Lottie, a textiles degree student at Coleg Sir Gâr's School of Creative Arts in Carmarthen, entered her work in the Bradford Textiles Society Design Competition and has been commended in the competition's Clothmaker's Foundation Award, in the category of knitted fabrics for accessories for fashion.  Lottie's inspiration was fantasy flowers and realising how upside-down lampshades take the shape of unusual flora, she got to work with the help of milliner and fashion lecturer Kate McKenny.  "I knitted the slipstiched panels and leaves for the hat," Lottie says.  "But I needed help putting it together as a wearable accessory so I needed Kate's millinery help to create a workable fascinator base."

The Bradford Textiles Society, the oldest textiles society in Britain, is hosting the awards ceremony in April in Yorkshire, which Lottie will be attending to receive her award.
