The speaker at the final Science Cafe of the spring season is Michael Pawlyn, Director of Exploration Architecture Ltd.

Michael was part of the core team of architects that designed the Eden Project and is the author of a recently published book titled 'Biomimicry in Architecture'. In a talk entitled 'Biomimicry and the ecological age' he will describe how this rapidly emerging source of sustainable innovation can help address some of the key challenges facing humanity: achieving radical increases in resource efficiency, shifting from a fossil fuel economy to a solar economy and transforming from a linear, wasteful and polluting way of using resources to a completely closed loop model in which all resources are stewarded in cycles and nothing is lost as waste. Join Michael at Aberystwyth Science Cafe at 7:30pm on 27th May in the Theatre Bar of the Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

They may have an unfortunate association with vampires, but Swansea's bats need our help. Volunteer bat detectors are being sought to take to the streets and lanes across the city and surrounding area in search of information on how bat numbers are bearing up here.

The Urban Bat Project is looking for people who would be prepared to arm themselves with an electronic bat detector and help collect data on the number and species of bats living in Swansea.

It's still not too late to take part in Wales Clean Coasts Week (Monday 13th May to Sunday 19th May). Keep Wales Tidy, along with local community groups, McDonald's restaurants, schools and businesses will be organising events across Wales to clear beaches of unwanted litter and debris.

The Principality boasts some spectacular beaches and last year 41 beaches and five marinas received the internationally recognised Blue Flag, which is administered in Wales by Keep Wales Tidy. The Lonely Planet travel guide also voted the Welsh coastline as the 'Best Region' on Earth to visit in 2012. Clean Coasts Week gives people the opportunity to give our beaches a spring clean before the busy summer season.

Over twenty sculptures sold, over 800 people through the gates, with over 300 just on the Bank Holiday Monday, over 200 slices of cake sold, over four beautifully sunny, warm days!

On their launch night, Thursday 2nd May, from six to nine-thirty p.m., Alexandra, Alex and Christine at Wyndcliffe Court Sculpture Gardens in St Arvans, Monmouthshire, sipped Pimm's, wine and champagne on the terrace and allowed their invited guests to view the Elegance and Form Spring Sculpture Show for the first time. Around 150 local dignitaries, owners of local tourist attractions, photographers and press mingled with the sculptors and their guests and a good time was had by all.
